One more question, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow to have a cavity filled and another old filling re-done, but I've heard the novacaine can really bother the bladder, if anyone has any suggestions on how to avoid this please do! I know it's short notice as my appointment is tomorrow, so I might just end up postponing the visit until I can get some more info/literature about it, thanks!

Novocaine doesn't bother my IC.

I have read that some of us do have problems with Novocaine. You can ask your dentist to leave the epi out of the Novocaine mixture. I think is the ingredient that helps the Novocaine last a longer period of time. You might have to have another injection during the process if it lasts a long time. Even though I do not know if Novocaine would cause problems for me, the last time I had dental work, I did ask and the Dentist did leave it out. I did fine.

I had two dental visits which required novacaine twice in the last couple of months. The first one, I had my heating pad which helped alot during the procedure, but it didn't take long after my laughing gas wore off that I was in an immediate flare. The w2nd time I went which was about a week later, I made sure that I took a pain pill prior to my appt, used the heating pad again and didn't have any problems at all.
I have had alot of dental work done, and I for the most part, I don't have flares, but I am always ready because when I had one of my root canals a few years ago, I went into a bad flare.

Thought I'd chime in here to say that I have no reaction to the novacaine. Good luck with your dental work.

I haven't had any problem with novocaine (I have never related it to that), but when I sit in the dentist's chair, it does seem to make my bladder fussy. Also, the last time I went (to get a filling replaced) I had to jump up over and over to go to the bathroom. (It didn't coincide with the novocaine--it was just nerves...)
So, for my appointment yesterday, I had made a note to myself right on the calendar to take deep breaths during the cleaning. I also took pyridium before I went. I am going to add the heating pad to the tool-box--good idea!

I don't have any problems with novocaine, or anything else (unless you just count being a "Nervous Nellie" -- whenever I go to the dentist I start shaking- I have to take a nerve pill just to calm me down.
