So, I'm in a flare and my hubby and I REALLY want to try! The thought of having sex every day for a week makes me cringe and want to cry. I have written this before but hope for some more responses. Have read the tips in the sex section. Every time we have sex I get a flare, so how the heck will I get pregnant!? we only have sex a couple of times a month at that. How did you guys manage the flare to try to get pregnant? What type of lube do you use? My URO/GYN said lay there with a couple of pillows after and prop up my hips for 45 minutes! OUCH! I want to shower and pee IMMEDIATELY after. Please help with your suggestions! Lidocane doesn't do much for me at all and most of my pain after is urethral and VV. :( I'm sad, we really want a baby and every month I flare around ovulation and I'm in soo much pain! HELP!

Would it be less painful to be inseminated with his sperm in your doc's office? You could go in two or three times right around ovulation? That way you could save sex for the times you are not flaring. I know nothing about this, but it's just a thought.

I had the same problem hun...I would always flare round ovulation and sex would make my bladder more painful :( I would say to take it easy and if you can buy some good ovulation test strips, that may help narrow things down. But also listen to your own body...if you can tell when you ovulate, that's key!! There are times when I had to put the pain out of my mind in order to for us to try to create a little miracle. There are times when the pain would be horrid, but then it would ease up enough for us to try. Amazing things can happen...I got pregnant during a month when all my ovultion tests were negative, I had two yeast infections and a bit of a bacterial infection. With all those creams I had to use, I am shocked the little guys could swim through the stuff. I felt my ovulation pain though and pushed through it so that we could at least try to get pregnant...and we did :) I am now 11 weeks along!!
It is possible sweetie...just keep in mind that you are creating a miracle & I'm sure things will fall into place. It may not be easy trying to get pregnant with IC, but it'll be worth it if you do!! Good Luck :)

P.S. Maybe you can try some Marshmallow Root Tea after sex...it really calms the bladder and stops the burning...won't hurt the baby if you do end up pregnant :)

I used an ovulation test and had sex on the first day of the positive result and then 2 days later. I've gotten pregnant 3 out of 4 times this way (one was a miscarriage). I used preconceive--a lubricant that is sperm-friendly this past time. One time, I did use lidocaine and ky jelly (not sperm-friendly) and didn't have problems conceiving. My doctors told me that if I were in pain afterwards, it was safe to take pyridium.

Also, pay attention to your cervical mucous--it will tell you when you are ovulating so you can limit how many times you need to have sex.

Good luck!

Actually they say not to have sex every day as it depletes the sperm count. It is more potnent and strong if it has at least 1 day build up so have sex every other day. I know this doesn't answer the ? about the pain. If you have sex every day you actually decrease your chance of getting pregnant plus cause yourself more pain. I have found intra vaginal Valium really helps me with pain from sex b/c a lot of my pain was being caused my my PFD not my IC. Maybe you can ask your doc about a low dose Valium or a muscle relaxer.

Hey there! I agree with the ladies on the OPK's (ovulation predictor kits), that way you know the best time to try to conceive, without needlessly (LOL) aggrivating the IC. DH and I tried for about 5 months - 3 months without OPK help, and 2 months with - second month with the OPK was the charm, lol. I stayed laying down for about 15 min or so and that was it. Apparently it was enough, lol. I was going to try that "special" lube for ttc-ing, called PreSeed, but good old Astroglide worked just fine for us ;) Most of the OPK's detect your surge right before ovulation, which is the best time to get busy, lol. That way the Little Swimmers are right there to meet the egg on it's journey. :) I think DH and I did the every other day routine the month we conceived, but I can't remember for sure, I know that month I was more layed back about it though. I think I got the surge and gave it one shot and that was it, lol, and I am 39, gonna be 40 in February - what a way to spend my 40th bday, lol, potentially giving birth!

Good luck and keep your chin up and positive thoughts, it can take healthy couples quite a few months to conceive, let alone those of us with the IC Challenge thrown into the mix!!!!

Hugs,
Tracey
