Help please< I had a partial hysterectomy at the beginning of January 08 and since my irriatablity and mood swings have been terrible. My flares have been worse since my surgery and wonder if having it done vaginally has anything to do with having more flares ? I have two young children and a husband that are very confused. I now take 25 mg of Zoloft and had weened myself down from 150mg because of weight gain and it just didn't seem to work anymore.( been on it for 7yrs ) I wanted to try Primrose oil I heard thats really good to take for premenopausel women but didn't know if it was a safe supplement to take. (flaxseed oil put me into a horrible flare) I just don't know what to do, alot of the antidepressants have bad side effects or just makes me feel blah. I live in the ST Louis, Mo area does anyone know a good doctor that deals with IC and women issues, I am really at my wits end here. Any feed back would be much appreciated .
Thankyou Cinder

Since I am having such a hard time getting a response I thought maybe I asked to many questions so could someone please tell me if we can take primrose oil without having a flare? Or anything like that to help with hot flashes and such.
Thankyou Cinder

Like everything regarding IC, diet supplements are very individualistic. I do not know enough about Primrose Oil to give you any advice. I hope someone who has personal experience with it will come by to help you. Have you done a search for any information available on this site? You will find the link to the Search feature in the dark blue ribbon toward the top of this page. You might also try doing a general search online.
If you will click on this link: http://www.ic-network.com/md/listings/Missouri.html and then scroll down, you will come upon a listing for a support group in your area. If they are still active, it might be worth your while to call the phone number listed to see if they have an references to the type of medical care you are wanting to find.

I am sorry. I know exactly what you are going through. I had a hysterectomy and both ovaries removed last year. I had to wait 6 weeks to start hormones (I was only 26 years old and no ovarires) and I had HOORIBLE moods, even suicidal thoughts. they put me on Paxil and it helped until I started hormones. Once I took horomones I was bettter.
I wonder too if the vag hysterectomy (I had it too) makes IC worse. I was diagnosed w/ IC AFTER my hysterectomy. I started having the urgency/frequency/ leakage after (had pain and other issues before) really bad- thought it was normal for a hysterectomy. Then I woke up one night about 8 weeks post-op literally scared that my baldder was dropping, I was in so much pain. It was after that that I went to my uro and got diagnosed. I also had some bleediing a few months post-op and they had to cauterize my cervix.
