I started with DMSO with linocaine. Linocaine is used to numb your uretha so it won't hurt as much, but I found it also numb my bladder for a short while. Kind of an "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, that feels good." I couldn't tolerate the side effects of DMSO: I smelled like garlic. It was real yukky. So, then I switched to Herparin and Linocaine. This worked well also. My regular gynecologist was doing the instills, but now I don't have anyone who will do the instillations. I can't do them myself because I'm unstable. My uro-gynecologist's office will gladly do them, but they're 5 hours from where I live. Bummer. But it's my understanding that the instillations are the number one defense against IC. I also have someone recommend to me a long time ago to ask the doctor to use a pediatric catheter as it is smaller and may not hurt as much. My instillations didn't hurt, so it wasn't an issue with me. And I also looked forward to the short relief of pain!!! I have been reading how some patients are receiving "cocktail" instillations, but I have never had one. Can anyone give us feedback on the cocktail instillations?
Blessings, Sesheta
