Just was wondering if anyone out there has done any of their own research and/or knows of the potential longterm affects of having numerous anaesthetics for using hydros for treatment. I have heard so many conflicting things, my own uro will only do a hydro once a year because of this and I know of another uro who would do it every week if I asked him to.....any advice?

There is always a slight risk with any kind of anesthesia. That said, I have had 35 hydrodistentions since my diagnosis in 1975, usually with spinal anesthesia. So far I havn't seen any problems as a result.
I've also had some surgeries not related to IC.

My uro is one who will do hydros under GA as often as need be - so far I have managed not to have them less than eight months apart. However, he has suggested it after a couple months before now. He says to think of it as a check cystoscopy - like they used to do every three months on same patients before the arrival of flexible cystoscopes. He doesn't seem very worried about the anaesthetic risk.

The one problem I have with having had anthesia so much is that it is taking more to have the same affect theese days. Something to watchout for...and let doctors know if you see it happening.
