i thought that i knew what each one meant, but now i am confused..

frequency is feeling like you have to pee all the time, and urgency is feeling like you have to pee reallly bad all the time?? is that correct??

and what is the best way to help with them.. i am pretty sure i just have frequency.. sometimes urgency.. i have an appt with my doc the end of next month (the first available.. darn him for being a good doc and havign so many patients :) ) i want to be prepared with knowing some of the things i can do to treat them so i can suggest something and he doesnt have to try and jsut guess with something i should try..

help is greatly appriciated... a newbie like me needs a lot of it

The way it is with me is: urgency=I had better get to a restroom before I go in my breeches and frequency=I have to go about every 5 minutes or so. Also, my bladder burns. When this happens to me, I know that I need to begin drinking a lot more water than I had been so my urine is diluted. Yes, it makes me go more but, the urine does not irritate my bladder as much which, in time calms those feelings of urgency and frequency. :)

I agree. Urgency is gotta go gotta go gotta go right now.
Frequency is how many times a day you have to go.
Please look at our Patient's Handbook for all the info you might want on treatments & meds. It is a font of information.
Good luck with the doc. Hugs, Kathi:hi:

yep, I agree too... here's my example.

I have a 20 minute commute to work. Generally, I have to pee before I leave the house, and then, often, I have to go again when I get to work. And again maybe 30-60 minutes later... and it goes on like that. I have to go to the toilet a lot of times per day, which is sure annoying and uncomfortable, but it is dealable. This is what I call "frequency."

However, sometimes, I pee before leaving the house, and mid-way through my commute I find myself having to pee so badly that I am alternately banging my head on the steering wheel and yelling at other cars to get the %$#@ out of the way (and in between yells I'm taking deep Lamaze-type breaths) because I am terrified I am about to pee in my pants...despite the fact that I just peed a little bit ago. This is most definitely "urgency."

Basically, I always have frequency, but my urgency is variable. I think it is also possible to have sudden urgency, without frequency, but I've never experienced that personally.

Hope it helps :)

thank you everyone.. this all helps a lot and it is good to know that i was thinking correctly..

with me, i usually have frequency, but if i hold it long enough, sometimes it goes away until i ACTUALLY have to go.. so its not that bad, and sometimes i get the urgency right after i go, which sucks, but i can deal with it..

thanks againn everyone

:)
