I went to the docors today and he was ticked that i hadn't started the elmiron yet. I last saw him a month ago and told him i would do my best to get on it. So I explained today that i can't afford it right now I'm out of work on workman's comp I have a very limited income. so I asked him some questions about the information packets he gave me when i was last there...you won't believe this!! He's never read them. How is he going to help me when he hasn't even read the stuff he gave me???!!! So he threw about of sample packets at me and told me to find a way to afford the elmiron and DMSO and come back in 3 months...very frustrated

Sounds like he has a very cold manner. Sorry to hear that. It is difficult when our Uros don't show compassion. I get that too. Is there a possibility of finding another one who may treat you better?

sounds to me your doctor has a very bad bed side manner!!! if he wants you on elimron he could help you get it there is a form they can fill out in there office and help you get it!
please look at the low income board or email me and i will see what i can do to help you get it.
its up to you but i would change doctor if i could find another one that understood IC that is totally bull crap! you should not be treated that way
on the low income board you may have to go a little ways back on the form to find the one for elimron but i know there is one there plus i just posted some new websites on how to get your medicine.
I'm sorry but that really ticks me off for you to be treated that way. ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr
sending you hugs and prayers Rhonda
if you need me please email me at sassynsweet026@yahoo.com.

Thats unbelievable that he hasnt even read up on what he gave you!!
Then he has the nerve to say o you ,'find a way to afford it".
What a jerk!
My other Uro was a jerk with no bedside manner so I just switched and Im so glad that I did. This one is so nice.
You should definitely switch!

yeah, doctors really need to learn that we are people too, and we arent all rich.. it was hard on me with the bills too.. i have a goo dinsurance, but between school, car insurance (in NJ its hell), and misc bills, i am saving everything to make sure i can pay.. its $15 everytime i go (which was once every week for 2 months), and my elmiron is like $18, the 6 DMSO's was $45 i think, but you still have to pay for the doc visits for them too.. sheesh.. never knew this wsa gonna cost me soo much

I agree with switching doctors problem being there is only 2 in the area and they both suck so now I'm on the search for a doctor that may specialize in IC more then them. Or at least read the material they give me. I have contacted elmiron they are mailing the forms so hopefully I can at least use him to fill out the paper work.....Just so frustrating
I'd loose this guy and I'd loose him FAST. No one deserves to be treated the way he treated you. If he doesn't know that we are moody as h#$$ sometimes because of pain and discomfort and he has the guts to treat you that poorly.....than I'd sure hate to see him on a bad day.
I've reached the magic age of the other side of 50 and I don't leave a dr's office anymore thinking "I should have said........." I SAY it now because most of the dr's I deal with are younger than I am (damn!!!! that hurt to admit!!!)
Tossing some extra prayers your way:blink:
That is unbelievable, I can't believe a doctor would treat you that way!
I think it would be worth it to find another doctor, even if you have to drive an hour to get there.

I agree find a new one if at all possible. I know the feeling of only 2 in you area. I only have 2 in my area also. But if the one I have is not to my liking I'm out of there and the other one won't take the insurance I am on so out of town I will go.
Good luck and heart felt hugs to you.

It's hard when your choices are limited, and you find yourself stuck with a uro you don't like. The uro who dx my IC told me there was NOTHING he could do for me. He told me to go home and deal with it. I was in so much pain at the time. He didn't allow me to try elmiron, or even tell me about it . My gyno now treats my IC.

Froglady,
I can totally relate! We hardly have any uros in my area, and those we do have are no good. One, who has recently retired, ruptured my bladder during a cysto. He then refused to give me anything stronger than Darvocet (which wasn't cutting it) for the pain! I saw another one, and he wouldn't give me anything for pain at all. A nurse at the hospital even told me that all his patients in the hospital suffered with too much pain.
So, for the past 9 or 10 years I've only been dealing with my family doc for my IC. Then last year I had some really bad flares and UTIs, so my doc wanted me to see a uro about 200 miles away in Albuquerque. But by the time I saw the uro, my bladder was much better. Get this: the uro said my family doc was doing a great job, and that I'd be better off just sticking with him!

There is a couple of great Uro-Gyn's in Hartford. They are both great, as is the Nurse Practioner. Great bedside manner, and take time with you.
