my main symptom is bladder burning, feels swollen and inflammed if i eat something it doesn't like, and it doesn't like much of anything. sometimes i have an urgency feeling (even though i know i don't have to go). oh, and i have no nocturnia (thank goodness) does elavil help with this? is it only for urgency/frequency? or to help sleep? so desperate for relief...thanks!

Yes - Elavil helps my bladder burning (and that gotta-go feeling) - If I forget to take a dose - my burning returns. Linda

thanks for the replies! how much did it help your symptoms? how long did it take for you to notice a difference?

Yes, it helps a lot. The first day I took 10 mg, I went from being unable to sleep more than 20 minutes at a time (due to having to void 60x a day), to sleeping 4 hours straight. I was so grateful, I cried. Within a few weeks on Elavil, my burning & frequency decreased a lot.

Hopefully it will help you too!
Wishing you better days soon,

these two anti-spasmodics also help with bladder burning. Also, when mine burns, I find taking pre-relief helps. You can find that over the counter at drug stores (I can only find it at Walgreens). I also drink a club soda and for me that helps. Some people on these boards talk about drinking some baking soda in water, I think a teaspoon in 1 cup of water (I don't do that, so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about the amount). Hope these ideas help. Good luck to you. By the way, I take the generic for urelle called utira-c. There is no generic for prosed and it is very expensive. I find the utira-c works just as well. Also, your doctor's office should have a ton of free samples of these two meds to try first before you invest alot of money in prescriptions. I think my doctor sent me home with 2 weeks of prosed and 2 weeks in urelle to see if I noticed any difference. They are very similar meds, they turn your urine blue and sanitize your urine. They also reduce the urgency and frequency. Good luck to you.
