Our yellow jacket and bald faced hornet population has just exploded. And they're getting ornery too,...must know their time is short.

I have two outside lights on my back porch. The first burned out last week and the second last night. I don't have the courage to replace the bulbs since it takes a while to unscrew the covers on the fixtures and then reassemble. The wasps seem to be swarming all over the outside of the house, and mostly around that porch area. I have no idea why, maybe looking for food, or a place to crawl into for the winter?

I never thought I'd say this but I can't wait for cold weather and a good, hard freeze!

We found a wasp nest in the ground beside our blueberry patch. We've sprayed it three evenings now and hope we got them. Last time I sprayed, then put a bucket over the hole!

That's what I need to do, -Find the nests. I've been watching, especially early morning & evening, hoping to see a high concentration of them in one area or even a general pattern of where they're coming from. No luck. Those yellow jackets, with their preference for building nests underground, makes it difficult to find their home.

If anyone has any other suggestions or ideas for locating a nest I'd sure like to hear about it.

Hmmm,...someone needs to market a teeny, tiny gps unit that could be attached to a fleck of lunch meat!

Same here! We just had a huge nest of bees in our eaves...it was crazy, I could hear them buzzing in the house like a small motor!

Also, the freeze would take care of the pollen! ::itches my nose::
