Hello everyone,
I am 26 yr old male who was diagnosed with IC almost 2 years ago. With help from this board I have had great successes. My IC is very mild and like 99% of the people on this board I was prescribed Elmiron. As of about 10months ago I stopped taking Elmiron and feel better than ever. I am currently taking the following supplements:
2000 mg Omega Man (Flaxseed Oil + Pumpkin + Other)
1000 mg MSM/Glucosamine (Vegetarian capsules)
4 Quercetin + Bromelain (Vegetarian capsules)
2 Saw Palmetto & Pygeum Extract (Vegetarian capsules)

I also take 1 (25 mg) of Elavil 2-3 hrs before bed. I really want to get off Elavil but haven't been able to find an alternative. Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

If the elavil is working well for you, I wonder why you are wanting to make a change. It's a very effective medication for pain control.

It makes me a total zombie for the first 2-3 hrs of the morning and constantly tired the rest of the day. I've also read that it can have sexual side effects for males.

Some who can't tolerate the side effects of Elavil have success with Tofranil. Possibly this is a med you could discuss with your doctor.Best wishes,Bri:)

You might want to talk with your doctor about reducing your dosage. My husband takes elavil for arthritis pain and takes 10 mg. If it's working, a lower dose just might help too.

I assume you are taking this at bedtime. I take mine at dinner so as to avoid the "hangover".

I've tried taking it around earlier in the evening but I still feel like a zombie the next day. My RX ran out about a week ago and I haven't refilled it. So far so good. My main reason for stopping is the all the sexual side effects such as decreased sex drive, erection strength, etc. Luckily I haven't experienced any of these but then again I am 26. I don't want to have ED in my 30's though.

I'm glad you were successful in getting off the elavil. I am weaning myself off as well. It has to be done slowly or I have trouble sleeping. Another few nights and I'll be off...for now.
