HI,

Has anyone ever gotten sick after doing an Elmiron bladder instill at home? I've been doing them at home once a week since about April. Before that I was having them done in the Dr.'s office for almost a year (I had to get the courage up to try them at home). I've been doing ok (good days & bad) seeing an improvement with my IC. This is the only treatment I am on except for taking pain meds when necessary. I always space the instills apart about every 7 - 8 days...10 max. When I do that I've even been experiencing some pain free days! A week ago I started not to feel good and even tho it had only been 5 days span since my last instill (my Aunt died and was feeling anxiety) I felt I needed to do the instill. Ever since then I've had pain....cramping....feeling a little nausea. Just feeling yucky. I feel like the instill didn't help. One of the hardest things I find about having IC is tryint to diagnosis yourself with what's going on. Could I have a UTI? Not sure. Azo test strip was negative for nitrates, but positive for WBC (which I always seem to have show up due to the IC). I don't want to do another instill until at least 8 - 10 days so I'm riding this out, but I return to work on Tuesday (work in a school) and I don't know what to do or think about this?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I don't know what I would do w/o the support and concern I receive from all of you here.

Thank you.

Joanne

I think you should call your doctor. there is always a chance of infection with doing instills at home.

It does sound like infection is a possibility. Is there an urgent care center near you? If so, I think it would be a good idea to be checked today.

Warm healing thoughts,

Thank you all for responding to me. I have another question. If I go to an urgent care facility for a UTI check, will I get accurate results? I mean the Dr.'s office sends the urine out so I am concerned that I may waste time by going to an urgent care.

They should be able to tell you if you have an infection --- and they probably use the same lab as your doctor. If you do have infection, they can put you on a wide spectrum antibiotic so it won't get worse.
