So, I am on imipramine b/c according to my Urogyn it is safe for conception. I then saw my PCP who was suprised since its a schedule D drug. Not safe! I just called back my URO GYN's office and the nurse said its a low enough dose that it is not harmful. I'm not sure who to believe? My PCP gave me a prescription for another medication that supposedly is safe (another tyicyclic antidepressant). I'm not sure what to do!

Also, does anyone know if Prosed/Ultira C or any of those numbing agents are safe???? The doctors both said its ok but they make me super dizzy! Yikes!!!!

I don't believe that Prosed is recommended to use during pregnancy.

Pregnancy/Reproduction (FDA Pregnancy Category C): Hyoscyamine and methenamine cross the placenta. Studies have not been done in either animals or humans. It is not known whether PROSED®/DS tablets can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproduction capacity. PROSED®/DS tablets should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.

Regarding the imipramine, I would just verify with my urogyn again because he should be more aware of what is safe during pregnancy. I am sure the nurse knows as well since she handles those calls all the time, but to be safe, I would just talk to the gyno again for your own state of mind.

I would go with the OB/GYN also. Another person you could ask would be your pharmacist. When I am in any doubt of meds I always talk to mine.

Thanks, I called back my doctor (PCP) and am waiting for a response. I'm in a flare and took the Utira C (like Pyridium) and I am sooooo dizzy. I am not sure how to taper off imipramine and start a new one. I wish My doctor would have called back. SOOOO many questions! He just said to start taking the new one. yikes! I'm kinda scared. I'm so tired of feeling like crap. This is a crazy roller coaster ride. Last night I got up and took a vicodin due to pain in my bladder!!! I can't wait to get my meds right. If I wasn't wanting to get pregnant, I could take anything you know? And we wanted to try THIS MONTH! this sucks! :(

Whenever I have a question re: a medication I always rely on my pharmacist. Thats not to say I dont trust my Dr--Dr's know what meds to prescribe to cure what ails you; the pharmacist knows all the science behind the meds (interactions, safety, etc).

Hopefully you'll get the answers you're looking for very soon!
Wishing you well...
Diana :)

Utica C is very similar to Prosed DS in that both can be used long-term. Yes, they treat the same symptoms of IC, but Pyridium is only recommended for short term use.

Like Diana and Ronda said, the pharmacist will be a huge help to you. I can't believe I failed to suggest that because I always go over everything with my pharmacist. I believe it's as important to find a pharmacist and form a relationship is as important as finding the right doctor.

I know you are trying to conceive so I am not familiar with the meds that are best to take while trying to conceive and getting pregnant, but please check out the use of Utica-C. For me, taking Prosed DS has changed my life with dealing with my symptoms. My 2 sons were quite young when I was diagnosed 20 years ago, so I was out there trying every combo of meds I could to treat my symptoms. I know that when I first started taking Prosed, it made me feel a little dizzy too, but I was taking it 4 times a day and that side effect went away quickly. I am only 1 way with meds, either I get used to the side effects quickly or the med is just not for me. I have been on it over a year now so I have been able to taper down to 2 a day on most days and still maintain my symptoms really well.

I hope you have a better night tonight. I know it's the holiday weekend now, so see if you can speak to your pharmacist tomorrow.

Hugs, T
