Hey out there,

I'm a big fan of instills with size 8 intermittent catheters & Lidocaine gel as the lube. Nothing has helped me like my current recipe including 2 emptied Elmiron capsules 3x/week.

But I just screwed up.. I know it. I was in a hurry and stuck the instill in the WRONG place. It came out all full of white goo. Then, without cleaning it first, I quickly stuck it in the right place, instilled my Marcaine, etc, and left for work.

Now I'm wondering:

1. Has anybody else ever done this?
2. If so, did you get a UTI?

I did go ahead and call my uro's nurse. She said I have a small chance at getting one, and that I'll know for sure in the morning. Very comforting. She didn't call in antibiotics.

I feel so stupid!:bonk:

I hope everything will be okay.

Well you are not alone, I did this once and I too was in a hurry and went and head and finished. Then I spent the whole day worried about a uti. Sound familiar? Luckily I dind't have any problem, hope you don't either. I don't get infections ever though, are you more prone to infections?

If you wake up with the slightest twinge I would call immediately, no need to suffer any more than we already do.

Good luck

Sandra

Looks like I'll be ok. The urologist's nurse said "well it's all YOUR body."

Nope, I'm not prone to UTI's. In fact I have never, not even once, had a bacterial UTI. The infection that sent me spiraling down this path was either viral or fungal, according to my neurologist. My urologist guessed at viral. All I know is that it was MEAN! :( :( Stay out of people's personal hot tubs!

I have been doing instills for serveral years. I sometimes miss. I have never had an infection. You can do another instill when you miss. It is very easy to know that you have missed. The ingredients will always immediately flow out once you remove the catheter.

I would definitely have a UTI. But I believe what Sandra said, if you are prone to UTI's then it might cause a UTI for you. I do at home instills, and they have been causing me alot of UTI's. I have one since May that I cannot kick. It keeps coming back. I am not sure what I am going to do.
Try not to worry, you likely wont get a UTI if you are not prone to them.
