Hello Everyone,

My gastro doctor is putting me on Cytotec as I can not tolerate any other Acid Reflux med. I tried this med once before with my uro for IC but had some complications (uterine bleeding), but I was trying new hormones at the time too. I'm stable in that department now so I'm hoping that maybe it will help both my IC and GERD this time around. Wish me luck!!

Hi,
I also tried this bit because of complications totally unrelated to Cytotec I had to stop. Please keep us informed on how you do. Hope it goes really well for you--good luck-Ginny

The good news is that my flare from the Lexapro has stopped, and I don't seem to be flaring from the Cytotec. It does make my stomach feel a little like I have rot gut, but that seems to be getting better. My bladder is definitely happier today!!!! I'll keep you posted!!! Thanks everyone.

I`ve been on Cystotec for over a month now and feel it is really helping my IC....I am also on Elmiron but am thinking about discontinuing it( into my fourth month)because of hair loss....

Side effects I have noticed from the Cystotec is diarrhea(at times) and the sensation of feeling hungry.....But I am urinating 2-3 hours during the day and 5-6 hours at night....I don`t have any pain and do not have that constant feeling of having to urinate....I did just have surgery for total abd hysterectomy with ovaries removed...I had fibroids and the PMS was causing my IC to flare big time.....but I believe the Cystotec is helping me as well....

My dosage is: Cystotec 200mg twice a day....take it with bkfast and supper...please take the medication as your doctor prescribed it...my urologist told me I could play around with the dosage being a nurse he was okay with that....

I wish you the best and please let us know how it works out for you...

Bless, Sharon

Hi,
Do you get your Rx filled in the US? I'd like to try Cytotec b/c I'm on Nexium and it is $$$ plus Cytotec could be good for both GERD and IC. BTW, I'm a former RN too and my docs generally let me titrate my own doses within reason.

Hi Janet,

Yes, I get my medications filled here in the USA...I pay a co-pay of only $5 with my husband`s HMO....

I just got back from seeing my urologist this morning and he is happy to hear how well I am doing .....I asked him to rate my IC(from mild to severe)and he told me(which I already knew, but wanted to hear from him)that I had a "bad" case because during my hydrodistension he was only able to get 500cc in my bladder under general anesthesia and he told me anything under 800cc is considered bad.... I think he was amazed at how well I am doing....

We also discussed stopping my Elmiron and just have me take the Cystotec and see what happens....and in a month to decrease the Cystotec(cut the dosage in half)....

I would recommend giving Cystotec a try...remember you cannot be taking any NSAIDS because it interferes with the producing of the postagladins....and if you are within child-bearing years you may not want to take it either(it is a med used for inducing abortions)....

I hope this helps you....

Bless, Sharon
