Pain, pain go away, come back another day.. Hello everyone, yesterday was my first Elmiron instillation. Even though I was diagnosed months ago, I had to keep moving the date, because of $$$ issues. It's $25 co-pay each time I see my doc. Since I do this once a week for 4 weeks, it adds up. The great news is that my husband found his "dream job"!!! :woohoo: it's a blessing since I have been the "breadwinner" in family for the last three years, while he was going to school and being a full-time dad to our 5 year-old, who had started kindergarten last week. :smile tee The instillation was a little painful, just the cathater part was uncomfortable, compared to other experiences w/cathaters at hospital, the nurse did a great job. So I held it for a little more than an hour and it was getting uncomfortable minute by minute, nothing I couldn't handle. My doc prescribed me some Hydrocodones, but when I dropped off at pharmacy they said they need to contact the Dr.s office because he forgot to write in a key piece of info on milligrams. Well the office was closed and they had to leave a message, I was thinking thats o.k. I'll be fine till tomorrow. Low and behold in about an hour I was in fetal position crying my eyes out. I couldn't believe it!:( Why was there such a "pain delay"? Thank god we received a call from pharmacy finally saying they were ready! I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced a delay like that? I'm off work today, so I'm taking it easy. Thanks everyone for your kind suggestions and Think Positive! :flower:

There have been ICers that have delayed flares after instills. The ingredients of the instill makes a difference. There are 100's of cocktails. Some have pain after the first few. Some just can't do instills because it is just too painful.

If you had lidocaine in your instill the numbing effect would last about 4 hours. I have never had DMSO but from what I have read most are uncomfortable after the instill for a while. I would talk to your MD just to see what he has to say about it.

I'm so sorry you are in such pain.

You might want them to mix lidocaine with it next time to numb things. I do not think I could handle something in my bladder without the lodicaine...
