I have a question. What did you do to get on disability? My pain psych was talking to me about it today and said that I would qualify for disability because of my pain issues. I started crying with him today b/c I was so stressed and it was only the 3rd day of school (special ed teacher).

Congrats to you!

I filed 2 and a half years ago. I would tell anyone to start with an attorney you pay the same no matter when you hire them. I was very good about my IC and Pan journals. DETAILS what do you do how often do you have to go to the bathroom and using the pain scale everyday. never asume your attorney has gathered up all the info you double check and if something is not there you find it. But most of all NEVER give up!! no matter what or how many times they tell you NO! I will never say it was easy because It was hard but now that it was worth it

I have a pain pscychologist who pratices out of the pain clinic that I go to. Your pain pscy will be very helpful and instrumental if you apply for SS. First they will want the pain md notes and the pscy notes will also be on there. So, pscy notes can also be very helpful in your SS decision

I used to cry all the time the whole session of therapy . I would cry when I got there and cry checking out with my bill....... why because I want to work. I don't want the disability........ however I have no choice.

Keep up with the therapay. I go every other week. What I like is this therapist understands pain, chronic pain, chronic illness, fmla issues, disability and resigning your work and how IC affects it. Before this I was always the only patient the therapist had with IC. Now I am like the 4th one he has had but he told me he reads a lot about it as well. He even tried to get me breakthrough meds as my pain md won't give me breakthrough meds. He doesn't want to mix short opiates with long acting opiates. We tried ultram ER. I itched all over and my face got red.......... then my insurance co won't pay for anything long acting or extended.

Congratulations!! I am happy for you. I had my hearing last week, but the judge said he would mail me the decision with in a few weeks. My lawyer said it looked positive. I had a real nice judge too who knew about IC or at least read about it. I am keeping my fingers crossed. The medical bills just keep piling up and we sure could use the help.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

:woohoo:

I am so happy for you! I am also on SSD. Like you, mine was a long fight! I also lost every battle along the way until I got in front of a judge. So, though I lost 2 of the battles, I ultimately won the war! It definately takes tenacity, persistance, belief in yourself, tons of documentation from years of Drs visits, and having a heck of an attorney certainly helps too!

I agree with you, Amber. When working with an attorney, it is always best to double check everything! Never assume that they have everything. Always double check. Also, I think it is best to obtain all of your medical records from every Doctor, hosptial, etc. that you list and go thru them with a fine tooth comb BEFORE you apply for SSD. That way, you can decide if it is in your best interest or not to list certain Drs. (For example, if you have visited a Dr. only once and didnt go back b/c he told you the pain was "all in your head", you may find out that he also wrote something to that effect on your chart. Would it really be helpful to your case to have SSD get the records from that Doctor? You will need to think about things like that. Once you file and list everyone, if you go back and get your records and see it then, it wont help you near as much. That's why I think it is so important to do this BEFORE you file.

One more thing....most attorneys (at least in my area) will not take a disability case until you have already filed, been turned down, then appealed and were turned down again. No one I talked to would take the case until I was ready for to file for hearing to go before the Administrative Law Judge. (This may be different from attorney to attorney, but just don't be surprised if this happens to you too.) Though, it is true if you can get one to take your case right away, it wont cost you anymore than it would if they take it later on. However, the reason most dont want the cases initially is b/c most of them only get paid if you win and then they get a percentage of your backpay. Obviously the longer things drag out, the more backpay you will be entitled to, thus, the more they will make. But, if you won right away, then they wouldnt be able to collect very much at all in most cases.

Good luck to all of you still in the process or those thinking of applying. Though it is a long, stressful road, it is definately worth it! (Besides, when you can longer work, what other option do you have!) So stick it out and keep thinking positive! I have been on this site for several years now and am seeing more ICers than ever being approved. This is WONDERFUL news for the IC community!

One last thing, the ICN Disability Kit is a wonderful resource! It will be money very well spent and would be a wonderful resource for you and also for your attorney. It is available in the ICN Shop.

Congrats again, Amber!!! I am very happy for you! I know what a huge relief this will be for you not to have to stress about this anymore! :smile tee

I am so happy for you...I know what you are going though. My hearing is Sept. 4 and I can't wait. I am using Binder & Binder so I am pretty sure I will get it. I not only have the IC but Fibro, Depression and now short term memory loss proven by testing. I have my primary doc, Uro, Rheumatologist, pain doc, Psychiatrist and Psychologist who all believe I am disabled. My husband isn't working right now so I will haul him to the hearing and he can tell them that he has to do all of the housework now, he has always done the big share of it but I was able to help until recently.

I hope you get your money soon!!!

Congrats again!!!!

I will keep you in my prayers!! sounds like you have a great case. I got mine only with IC as my only reported condition. I have depresson because of IC. My husband also does most of the house work and cooking. It really depends on how my IC is doing. I know that the power of prayer got me this far. I hope to have my money by november.
let us know how things go on thuraday
