Do you think that IC can cause dehydration which makes the body more susceptible to heat related illness?

I think it is more that our meds make us dehydrated...
thats my thought....
not sure but it makes more sense that way since we get dry mouth from a lot of our meds and have to watch out for heatstroke with a lot of them too....

Oh yes I do think certain medication play a big part in. For me Detrol LA was really bad for me with the heat situation. It doesn't affect everyone this way, but I can't constantly take it.
Ronda I am doing better especially from the last talk I had with you. The issue got better and have been manageable most of the time.
Ronda I hope you are doing better sweetie, have been thinking about you a lot and hope you feel stronger.
Sending hugs, Trish

It's very important to drink enough, especially in hot weather. I know if I don't, I get dehydrated --- but I think it's because I perspire a lot.

I am the opposite, I don't sweat a lot. More than what I did since getting off the medication daily but still I don't think enough. After being outside for awhile my face will turn beet red. I don't realize I need to stop until until I get these headaches then I know I got to hot or if my husband tells me to stop because my face is red.

Thanks Trishann.. I have been doing a little better.. I started instills with Lidocaine and kenalog< a steroid and I had this done a week ago and I have to admit my bladder has been doing really good..I only had that one so far. But I was in a horrible flare and ready to try anything..The instill did aggravate other things but that calmed down within a few days..
Glad you are doing better..PM me anytime :)

Yes, some of the meds I take make my mouth so dry but I do think too for me I don't drink much. More I drink the more I have to pee and the pain gets worse. Exspecially water. Back before the heparin helped I would go days without drinking. People never believed me but I did. Almost passed out a few times but that was better then the extra pain/peeing.

:hi:Ronda those flares are something else, aren't they! BUT glad to know that you are doing better.
:hi:Waterflow water sometimes makes it impossible for me too, but then water helps it at times. I know :bonk:
Sorry not saying to much but really been feeling exhausted. Don't know what is causing it but waiting for it to past. Just one of those months :cat:
Sending hugs to both of you, Trish

My wife's situation is that the meds cause constipation, which requires laxatives to correct. These are basically impossible to get right, and the unavoidable over-correcting cause a vicious seesaw cycle between diarrhea and constipation.
The diarrhea, if severe, results in dehydration, which is VERY DIFFICULT for an IC sufferer to correct. The best answer for dehydration is to up the fluid intake. This (as said above) can increase frequency, resulting in increased pain and also a lack of sleep if you're one of the lucky ones who can sleep through most of the night if they had a curfew in place for drinking. Also, the next step in countering dehydration, which is electrolyte replacement, is REALLY tricky, as even plain kids pedialyte has citric acid. Gatorade, Immodium, Pedialyte, all have nasties for IC'ers.
We've been getting by via making our own electrolyte drink, but we're still open to any other ideas for countering dehydration. Any other nifty concepts?

I just spent the night in the hospital with an IV for dehydration. The doc also admitted to missing up my heart meds. The cardiologist put me on lasix and potassium and it inter acted with everything else. I am doing better now. My thyroid also went low. The combination of all this plus the many meds were not getting along.

That's horrible, I'm really sorry to hear you went through that! :( ... I do hope you got through it and are on a better path, including doctor, now.

I hope your doing better. After my fun time with the hosp. I have had too many doc. visits. I have been to the cardiologist, general practioner, vascular surgeon, physical therapy, and uro for dmso. I am schedule for another DMSO visit, ultra sound of the veins in my legs, and the cardiologiest. Some day I hope all this will end. I am at my kids new house visiting my son, daughter in law and Grandson. The diet has been wrong My IC is in a flare, my chest has hurt due to the cold, and we walked alot today so my left leg and foot are swollen.
HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS
