Hello everyone,
I just started seeing a wonderful phyisical therapist. I have seen her for one week and already feel better (this is coming from someone who has grown very skeptical after countless dr appointments and treatments with no postive results) She has been externall massaging my thighs, butt area, and pelvic region. She is also using this ultrasound machine on where she rubs a wond over my pelvic region and it is suppose to absorb inflammation and ecxess fluid. So far so good.
Anyway, she mentioned me trying a T.E.N.S unit today, but I wanted to ask if this is only used for pain, or if it is also used to treat frequeny...I have no PAIN, frequency only....

I have used TENS for pain and we tried it for fequency. It did not work for me BUT you may want to give it a try. It may be the answer for you!
Good Luck!!

It's been a while since I used the TENS unit, but I don't remember it helping with freq either. Its purpose was to "rewire" our pain receptors. Which for me worked for a while, but I was glad when I could finally get the interstim implanted. It helped with the pain and definitely the urg/freq. I feel it helped with my pain because my bladder wasn't so irritated with holding urine and trying to empty drops at a time.

I have been using the TENS with my physical therapist for about 6 months, and I find it to be helpful in a flare because it does something to mellow my urge feeling if that makes sense.
I wore it 9-5 Monday thru Friday and for most of the weekends, and only just lately have I stopped wearing it. (Mainly I think because I'm on the upside of a 4 month flare:loco:) The other day I ate something questionable, and putting my TENS on seemed to help.:woohoo:
Personally, I think it's all about finding the pieces of your own puzzle to be able to feel as good as possible, as often as possible!
Wearing mine, I used a little jewelry pouch with a snap to hold all the wires together at my waist. It was easier to just tuck in my waistband that way, rather than having dangly wires. Do you have any tricks you use?
That's great that you have a PT that's willing to try many methods with you! I hope you are having a painfree day :)

Jess is very right. It just depends on each of us as an individual. I had a short success with it, but my husband uses it on his shoulder sometimes and it works great. In order for it to "jumble" up my freq sensations, I had to have it turned up pretty high, plus with my skin, which gives me more skin issues than I can count, I was constantly replacing the pads due to they felling off easily.
To each his own. It was just one of the many steps that lead me to being about to finally try the interstim, which for me works great. I must add that I have learned that I probably has so much success with my interstim because of the fact that no only did my pelvic pain specialist do my surgery, she was also the person that did my after care for more than 3 years. After ready MANY strories of people that had "great" doctors that implanted their interstims, I have actually been "floored" as to the lack of care they receive to work with them to make their interstim surgery a sucess. It never occured to me that just because a doctor can do the surgery, that is the doctor that you go to that works on your settings. I can tell you that if I was given the option, I would be adding a number of questions to my always long list. First of all....who would be maintaining my adjustments after my surgery.
When I talk about my success with my interstim that Dr. RAgi Doggweiler put in, I not only had relief from my freq/urg, etc. I had about a 50% pain reduction because she was constantly available whenever I needed my interstim needed to be adjusted. If I had to wait even a week back when all this was new to me. There is no way, I would be here today giving my interstim such a success story!
Jess, I hope your TENS unit will continue to work. I had so much fun working around my wardrobe so that the thing wouldn't stick out, but I did what I had to do!

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know about ow a tens unit cured my fequency (I still have pain). Lat year, I researchd Jill O.'s story and saw how the Stroller device helped her in the healing process (also known as stroller afferent nerve stimulation). It may also be know nas PTNS post tibial nerve stimulation. Basically, an acupuntue needle is placed right above the ankle and is attatched by a wire to a tens unit. I received six of the perscriped twelve treatmets and went from going to the bathoom twenty times a day to every few hours. I would have continued the treatments but they we not covered by insurance ($70 a treatment). I wonder if they would have helped with pain if I had continued the treatments. I hope this helps.

I just had my second tibial treatment. I am wondering if this is going to be very helpful because my ins. won't pay for it

Hi,
I would try to complete at least six treatments even if you had to put them on credit ($420). I still sufer with pain but I am so glad that freqency is no longer a big part of my life. I read the research on the PTNS study while in the office and it was impressive.
