My Mom recently discovered a bacon by Hormel that claimed it had no MSG, nitrites/nitrates, sulfite/sulfates and one other additive that I can't think of right now...Unfortunately the grocery store that I go to no longer carries it...I plan on calling Hormel to find out who they distribute to in my area. When I was checking their web-site, I noticed they also have a line of deli meats that claim to not have any of these additives either.

If you live near a Trader Joe's they have several types of uncured meats, without msg, nitrates etc. I especially like the uncurred(not smoked) turkey bacon.

I buy my nitrate free bacon at Costco. All of my regular grocery stores carry the Hormel brand nitrate free and preservative free lunch meats. They are good.

If you cant find what you're looking for specifically, I 2nd the Trader Joe's suggestion. They have all sorts of preservative-free products at very reasonable prices.

Good luck in your search.....

You can find Prelief (unopened) on **-ever try it? I ordered some and they were in the same packaging as the store and unexpired. They might ship to Canada-you might want to check.

Whole Foods Market (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/) carried a large variety of uncured nitrate free meat products. We're having ham tonight in fact. My husband thinks it taste better than the regular stuff.

You can also ask just about any health food store to order Prelief in for you. That way if it's expired the store deal with the supplier instead of you! :lmao:

I shop at Publix and just yesterday I asked the deli person if any of their Publix or Boar's Head turkey or roast beef had no preservatives and they said no

and pointed to a all natural turkey breast but it was $11.00 a lb. of course.

What kind have you tried?

I love the honey turkey as well as the oven roasted. Their honey ham and regular (no smoked flavoring). You can get samples if you ask! I have never had any Boar's Head product that I don't like, but honey flavoring was the best!

thanks i have my cysto hydro tomorrow morning and going to stick to only the "ok" foods for about a week after depending on how i feel, then going to start adding "maybe" foods. I will try oven roasted, don't really care for honey meats. I've only starting eating the "ok" foods since friday so really can't tell anything yet.

Yeah, I would avoid the smoked meats... but all others are good! It took a good 2-3 months on mostly "ok" foods for my bladder to calm down. At first I didn't think I was diet sensitive, but after enough time and enough calming down... It did show me I was diet sensitive. Good luck with your hydro/cysto!

Oscar Mayer now sells a "natural" bacon with no nitrates or nitrites/uncured using celery salt as a preservative. They also offer a "natural" hot dog same as the bacon. Both taste very good. We have been trying them for the past month, once per week only and my husband hasn't had any complications so that may be a solution as well. Of course, they are a bit more expensive. But, bacon with Sunday breakfast is a treat for him.

I have had good luck with Boar's Head. There is definitely no MSG and you can get the low sodium. I actually ate low sodium BH ham during a flare (it had already started) and did just fine. But that's smart Tangerine. I wouldn't have anything new before a hydro cysto either.
