So gastro enterologist says I have and have had a long time IBS. I guess he would know they looked inside me enough times and such. I think I understand the symptoms but have no idea how to tell weather it is the colitis causing them or the IBS

My question to you what is the imp. things I should definatly know about it?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry you have IBS - but isn't nice to finally know?! I have IBS that is dominant with diahrea. The key for me is to not let my stomach get too empty. I eat my 3 meals a day and snacks in between and before bed. If I skip a meal - within 15 minutes of eating again I get terrible cramps and D for a couple of hours. Also, I have discovered FIBER! I have increased my intake of fiber through foods and have started taken psyllium husk (metamucil) for fiber and seems to help. Also meals that are high in fat tend to be bigger triggers. I can eat one hight fat meal and be ok as long as my stomach was not empty when I ate it but if I eat 2 high fat meals in a row...watch out! I have never been constipated so I can't help you there but I hope the rest helps you. Let us know how you are doing.

I had to take levsin (sp?) or levbid (?) for a long time.

Pam is right. Watch out for those high in fat meals. (Fried chicken, well anything fried.:( )
Also I had to completely cut out spicy foods...and I loved mexican foods too.

Now when I became pregnant I had to go off all my meds. And I haven't had to take anything for my IBS since then. I'm going on three years. I've been able to reintroduce my mexican foods again. Before if I ate it on the meds, it took a week to recover from one meal.

So figure out which types of foods to cut out that might be a trigger for you, just like in your IC diet.........

I hope you get relief soon. I've read your posts. Sometimes I don't get the chance to reply but you continue to be in my prayers. You need a break......:kissing:

Thanks for your replies.....doesn't sound like there is anything different to do than I wasn't already doing for my Pouchitis/Colitis....so if anyone knows something that is specific to IBS info..whatever...I would appreciate it.....Thanks again.

Watch what you eat and write every thing you eat even the time you eat it. Like a diary food diary. STRESS MAKES IBS WORES! Good Luck Katrina!
I'm praying for you. Keep us updated! !
