I found a good recipe for Pear bread. I am willing to post it if any one wants to try it. It is made with fresh pears and ii seems to be IC friendly. My family ate the whole loaf in a couple of days so I know it was good.

It sounds good and within a few weeks our pear tree will be ready for picking. If you'd like to share the recipe, I'd love to have it.

I would like the pear recipe. I would love to have a good bread recipe as well. The pears are ready now, so it would be perfect if you have the time. I was looking for something to do with some of them yesterday.

(Note from SharonA...Since everyone, including me, seemed very interested in trying this recipe, I copied it from the American Profile Magazine and deleted the website address because it linked to book sales.)
This is the recipe for pear bread. I have a loaf in the oven and it smells good. I am going to try making the next patch with splenda.

Pear Bread
Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups peeled and chopped pears
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 325F. Grease and flour two 8 1/2-by-4 1/2-inch loaf pans.
2. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Mix eggs, oil, sugar, pears and vanilla in a small bowl; add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened. Stir in nuts, if using.
3. Spoon into pans. Bake 1 hour to 1 hour and 10 minutes, until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans. Slice when cool. Makes 2 loaves.

Tips From Our Test Kitchen:
Be certain that this ultra-moist bread is cooked through before removing it from the oven. Serve it as a tea bread or as an elegant dessert with ice cream on top.

Thanks for the recipe, I can't wait to try it. We are a small family- I wonder if I could cook both and possibly freeze one loaf for later. Anyone with experience in cooking know if that would work?

I am going to buy some pears today--I ate all the ones I got last Friday!!!

What I plan on doing is freezin the loafs. I might even cut them in two so they aren't so much to eat at once since there is only my husband and I. I am now on my way to make two more loaves with splenda. We are going to do a tast test and see if there is any difference.

let me know how your taste test goes, I always try to use splenda or at least half sugar half splenda

Is one kind of pear better for cooking? Does it matter?

Any pears make a yummie pear loaf :smile tee I've been making them since IC & I must say if I'm in a hurry I just use tin pears cause they're quick & easy & lovely & moist.............yummie!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't looked at your receipe so hope that's a tip that works!!!!! Freezes really well too :smile tee I wrap it in 2 layers of cling film, or freezer bags & leave it to defrost until all the condensations dried.................ummmmmm I can feel some baking coming on :smile tee

We did the taste test. The sugar bread is moist an yummy. My families vote is that the splenda bread is drier. The sugar bread comes out darker than the splenda bread. I have finally used up all the over ripe pears. Now I have to get fresh ones so I can have a fruit to eat. SOOOOO SADDDD
My husband took a loaf to work and said that his co-workers ( which are mostly women ) said it is good.

My family loved the pear bread, I am going to make some more tonight. I think I will try to do half sugar half splenda and see how it turns out. I will let you know.:hi:

I am glad you enjoyed it. I made four more loafs today. I have to freeze it so I won't gain weight fast. Today I had one lonely pear and one ugly banana so I combined them. I will get my husband to taste that one for me.
