Hello everyone,

Tonight I went to the ER after being in horrible apin for the past eight hrs. I saw a doctor that I've never seen before and while I'm sittinf there in the room crying and bend over in pain, he starts almost scolding me about not calling my doctor 1st. Well, if he would have taken a look at my chart in the first place, he would have seen that I did call him and whenever I have he always tells me to go to the ER!! My sister was furious! Before he came in the room, the nurse came in and did a Fem Cat, (which was horrible), and he didn't even know that, that had been done. He acted as if I was wasting his time. Have any of you ever experienced anything like this before? My sister even saw this doctor looking in a medical reference book and I know it was because he had no idea about IC:mad: Most of the doctors here, (including my Uro) don't know much about it. I hate life right now. I'm sorry but have no other words -Emma:frown:

:grouphug: :grouphug: Sorry u are in so much pain. The ER has ****** me off many a times with doctors that don't understand the severity of the pain I've been in.......and treat me like there is no need for me to be there.....GRRRRRRRRRRR.

Sorry you had that experience too. Someday we will get the word out.

Hope you are better soon.

I always call my doctor first --- even if I know he will tell me to go to ER. That way, when I get to ER, I can tell them I have been in touch with my doctor and he suggested the ER visit. Then I tell the ER doctor that if he has questions, he should telephone my doctor.

In your case, I think a letter to the Administrator of the hospital is in order. No patient should be made to feel belittled.

Warm hugs,
Donna

Emma,
I am sorry for the bad ER experience. I know you have been having trouble. I think you were going to try to find one in the Houston area. I hope you will find someone there to help.
Sending hugs,:grouphug:

I have had similiar experiences, and then I have had times when the ER doc knew about IC and treated me really well. Its a gamble going in, and I hate it. My pain center said that eventually we would develop a standing order and have it on my hospital chart so that I wouldn't have to go through all that anymore, is that a possibility for you?

If the ER doc had IC for one day he would be way more empathetic!! However, did he treat you in the end properly?

Mad at the ER world, when will they catch on that when an ICer shows up on their doorstep they are our last resort, and treat us properly!!!1:mad:
