I am wondering if there is anyone besides me who get very little help with the diet. I seem to have very few diet triggers. I have pain all of the time - even during the elimination diets. When I was first dx my doc put me on a strict elim diet and it did not change my symptoms. My only triggers are milk, yogurt, ice cream, tap water, kettle korn and artificial sweeteners (not splenda). I can drink soda and have no more of a flare than any other time - same with OJ, pizza, taco bell etc... I am trying prelief to see if that might make a difference but I am thinking if removing those things from my diet did not help then diluting the acid won't either but I am willing to try. Anyway, everyone talks about the importance of the diet but I can't seem to make it work. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't have as many diet triggers as many ICers, but I have heard that it can take six months or more on the diet before any real benefit is seen.

Diet played a very important part for me in controlling my pain. I was able to figure my triggers, because I would have a reaction within 3 hours after eating or drinking something questionable.
I have read on the boards before where others have a much longer time period between the time they eat somwthing, and the time they react to it. This makes it much harder to associate the symptoms with the offending food.
I can eat spaghetti, chili, and pizza ocassionally, and taco bell most of the time, but I have learned that even though I don't have a reaction to these foods, it does irritate my bladder enough that if I push it to much, something simple and entirely different can trigger my pain a few days later.

Hi there! I can eat a lot of foods the diet says to avoid and others that they say are okay seem to be a trigger. I too find very few trigger foods per say. I did start taking the Prelief about 2 months ago. At first I wasn't sure how well it was working. However, after the first month of taking it, my symptoms greatly improved. I barely have a problem with food anymore. I'm not sure if it's strictly from the Prelief, but it was the only thing I did different. I would definitely give it a try and see if you notice a difference. I take at least two tablets every time I eat. On foods that I think could possibly be a trigger, I take more. It seems to be working for me. I think the whole diet thing is different for everyone though.
I hope this helps. Take Care and I hope you find some relief soon!
Sending warm hugs-
Jennifer

I can eat things on the "not allowed" food list and not have any reaction SOOOOOO I think ok this is great; but then I tend to overdo. and guess what ..............flare up:banghead: dah you did it to yourself. Foods for me trigger more urgency, frequency and burning. That 'gotta go" NOW feeling makes me more nervous which does not help:rolleyes:
My pain comes from walking, stress and just doing to much and not listening to my body saying STOP:eek: SLOW DOWN and rest. Which is very hard for me. I am very dedicated to my work and think they will not survive without me:scream: dah
yea they will so I just need to start paying more attention to me..
Just because you don't have a flare with a no-no food this time doesn't mean you won't next time. Always have prelief handy.
I had an instillation today, one tomorrow and one Friday...I may just have to take Friday off. Whatcha think?
well..........I dunno. I will let you know
