Hello, my name is Angela. I was diagnosed with IC in 2000 when I was 23 years old. I had bladder installations for about a year and went on a medication called
L-Argenine. It helped until I had children. When I was pregnant with my first child I had minor problems and after I delivered him I was great for a long time. When I was pregnant with my second child I had several complications. I had to have the Bladder Installations for four months of my pregnancy and was on pain medications. While I was pregnant with him I was also diagnosed with Medullary Sponge Kidney Disease.
Since I delivered my son in Sept '05 I have had nothing but problems. I have been on several different medications, bladder installs, and I had squamous metaplasia in my bladder which were Pre-cancerous cells. I had no progress over the past year so my urologist did surgery July 21/08. I had lesions removed, cautorized, distention, and botax injected. I still feel like I am recovering. I have up and down days. I have a wonderful relationship with my GP and Urologist. I also have high oxalates in my system and I recommend anyone get tested for this. It is an aweful test to do, but worth it. Oxalates come from veggies, fruit, whole wheats, etc and cause crystals to form in your urine causeing Kidney stones. I pass the crystals which cause major grief in my bladder.

I am sooo appreciative to have found this site as I have gone 8 years with no support. Thanks for this.

Angela

Hey Angela!! Welcome!!!

Do you know about the supplent OXABSORB? it was used in the groundbreaking research done by Clive Solomon's on oxalate levels in vulvodyna patients. My mom takes it daily and it dramatically improves her symptoms. You might want to research that and check it out.

Interesting, I've recently discovered that foods high in oxalates are badly irritating my stomach of all things. Spinach, for example, just kills me!

Jill :)

What kind of test do they do to check if you have high oxolates in your system?

Hi everyone, sorry for being away for so long. I finally have things under control and am back at work. My urologist put me on a medication called Gabapentan. It is for cronic pain and is working wonderfully. I also passed a kidney stone which they figure was lodged and causing me great pain so that helped too.

The test for Oxalates is a 2 part thing. You get two jugs and one has an acid in it. Both jugs you have to collect a 24 hour pee collection in and return it to the lab. Oxalates come mostly from veggies, fruit, chocolate, whole wheats, etc. You know the healthy stuff. Drinking lots of water is important. The oxalates create crystals in my urine which is horrible to pee out. Like peeing razor blades. But I am doing much better now. Anyways, gotta go for now.
