Is it possible to have pfd and not have IC.. I have been on elmiron for 3 weeks... When I saw the Uro a week ago he said he wanted to do a hydro distension... I think he has done things a bit backward.. The dmso treatments did not help at all, so I am thinking ,that he is thinking that maybe I do not have IC.. I did have 2 office cystos from 2 different Dr's. they both told me that my bladder was healthy .I have been in pain since last Jan.. I sure would like to believe that I do not have the IC .. My surgery is going to be on the 4th of sept.. Has anyone out there just have the pfd..?? Ellie

I agree with the last post. I have pfd and IC and they seem to play off eachother sometimes.

You certainly have have PFD and not IC. Elmiron can take months to help (if it does)... so hang in there with Elmiron. My uro's (I moved 3 times in the last 3 years) and each of them are not big fans of Elmiron. 2 love DMSO, one only thinks that Elmiron instillation help (oral not as much). All of my uros think that hydrodistentions are great for people with IC. It helps me a lot and they suggest getting a hydro every 6 months (due this month but won't be able to for a couple of months or at Christmas time). I have had 3 in office cysto's and it always looks healthy. The problem I have is my bladder won't expand very much while I'm awake. So, they had to do a hydro to just get a look at it (when I get 50cc's in my bladder, it becomes urgent and uncomfortable... adding more than that becomes painful). So, on a hydro, they saw, scar tissue, connective tissue abnormalities, vascular changes, and pin point bleeding. Between symptoms, the KCl test, and the hydro... it's a slam dunk for IC.

So, hang in there! Explore your options and read and research!!
