I know that blueberries are considered a universal safe food, but does anyone out there actually have problems with them? I'm flaring worse than usual today, and the only unusual food item I ate was a cup of plain, fresh blueberries. I hope that's not what is causing this!!
Thanks! :)

Hi Heather - we are all different unfortunatley so what upsets one might not upset another. I can eat blueberries without it making my IC pain any worse, but it does cause my vulvodynia to flare :o( If it's not one it's the other ay!!!
Hope you're feeling better soon!
Big hugs

Becky -- oh, of course! Blueberries are high in oxalates, aren't they? I'll bet the bank that my vestibulitis is going bonkers and that my IC is following suit (as it tends to do). Thank you for your response. That makes so much sense!
A shame to be bothered by them, though...heartbreaking to give up yet another fruit!

Ooooooooooooooooo I know it's so frustrating isn't it! But yes, I'd say its to do with the oxalates. I've just started taking Calcium Citrate which is supposed to help remove some of the oxalates - bit like the prelief helps to remove the acid. Might be worth giving it a go??? I've only been taking them for a few weeks but not very regular until this week. My vulvodynia does seem to be more settled than it's been in a little while now. Might be the calcium helping might not, so have decided to take it regular & see how it goes :) If you want any info on where to buy you can go to www.vulvalpainsociety.org - go to sub heading treatments then sub heading low oxalate diet then you'll see calcium citrate highlighted :) Hope this helps.

Yet again, a huge help! Thank you so much -- I'll study that site hard tonight! :smile tee
Balancing diets is frustrating indeed. I just try to look on the bright side -- unlike many people out there with severely restricted diets, I'm not risking my life if I cheat, so I figure I can't complain...too much. ;) (Maybe not the sunniest of bright sides, but it does snap me out of it if I'm starting to get bummed about my food choices! There's always a silver lining...)
I've been falling behind on my calcium supplements (which oh-so-conveniently happen to be calcium citrate), so I'll be sure to take them more regularly now that I know just how beneficial they can be. Wow, was my mother ever right when she stressed the importance of daily calcium supplements!

Oh excellent how convenient is that :smile tee! And I couldn't have put it better myself about the diet :smile tee I too try to look on the bright side as things really could be so much worse!
Big hugs

Blueberries are my good friend. I eat frozen blueberries with flavored coffee creamer on them and they are great. Wait for a while and then try them again.

I have no problems with blueberries. I eat them fresh with cottage cheese when in season; also enjoy them frozen.
