Some lab work came back that I need before I get a cataract operation in a few weeks showing increased white cells. My doctor says that's a possible bladder infection and as long as the people doing the surgery center know that they won't do the needed operation, so I have to take antibiotics for a week. It could be a low grade infection but it could be also just IC. I know we aren't medical professionals here, just asking if anyone came across this increased white cell business with IC before?
Thanks much people for listening.
Warmly,

I sometimes have some white cells in my urine, but blood tests don't show this. I'm absolutely not a medical expert, but I have read that an increase in white cells is usually a sign of infection. I think it's a very good idea for you to be on some therapy before having eye surgery.

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes and it made a huge difference for me --- also, the surgery was not difficult at all.

Sending an encouraging hug,
Donna

I know I am consistently low on white blood cells. I do know it is a sign of an infection.....never heard anyone say before that there's is high a lot and think it is related to IC. Sorry.

My Uro said I have white blood cells in my urine. Although tests showed I did not have a bladder infection, he said it was possible that I may have a low grade infection that the tests were not picking up, or a vaginal infection, (I did not have a vaginal infection, and I still had a high white blood cell count after antibiotics). I have since read that inflamation can also cause an increase in white blood cells.

Good luck with your surgery.

I always show an elevated white cell count in my urine....no infection though. It just seems that my system keeps trying to battle my IC. *shrug*

Healthy Wishes,

For about a year I had very high counts with no signs of infection. I was tested for everything including urinary TB. Now my counts are normal. Who knows?

I just posted a question similar to this, actually. Except my white cell count is low and has been consistently for almost two years. I'm not sure if it's something to be concerned about or not. Almost makes you wonder if the white count is even affected by IC with some of us being low while others high. It's puzzling!

It is one of those things were not many of us are normal but we often too far on either one end or the other. That way with blood pressure, thyroid, and other things. Puzziling is an understaitment! I think these things must mean something but what???
