Hi all,

I'm looking a little bit behind... The doctor is pretty sure that I suffer of IC (diagnosys in 2 weeks), but when did it start?

I've been having cystitis since I was a little girl (6 or 7 years old) about once every 2 -3 years.

When I first had sex I was 19 and there was no way to do it.. i had to go to to the loo litterally every 2 minutes..Penetration has never been really "confortable" for me..

When I was about 22 i had the worse flare ever after about a litre of orange juice (freshly squeezed and pretty acid).

The fact that for all these things there is no bacterial cause makes me think that all that started years ago!!

Do any of you think that IC started in their childhood?

Mine definitely did not, but one of my daughters had very "acidic" urine that made like a chemical burn when she had a diaper rash. I was sent to an allergist pediatrician with her when she was about 3 months old and he limited the foods I cold give her until she was past 1 year old.She basically could only have rice cereal, carrots, chicken and pears.Does the food sound famililar? I suspect she had this very thing way back then in 1964.I also had a younger sister that suffered with "chronic cyctitis" back in the mid 60's.

Yes I truly believe I had this disease as a child. But never had a Dx for it.. I always had frequency and urgency as long as I can remember and burning. Also as a teenager I was dx with spastic colon which I do not think now that is what it was. I truly believe it was the bladder instead of the colon. But there was just not much known about IC then! So I was never properly Dxs. As soon as I started having sex it was painful. I did have bouts through out my life of what we call remission and was almost symptom free, all except for the frequency and urgency that I have always had!

I believe mine started in my mid teens. I'm certain IC was in full force by my late teens, though I was not diagnosed until age 48.

Thank you for your responses. The more I think about it the more I realize that I've had this problem for a long time. But when symptoms are mild, you don't live "well" but you get used to the discomfort.

I'm kind of glad that it came up so clearly, so at least I can do something about it and be not only like before, but maybe better then I never was!

At least I hope so!

I've always wondered how could other women wear tight jeans, strange underwear and be confortable. I never was!

I remember to have said to my dad when I was about 7. "I can't wee and then drink before going to bed or I will need to wee again! Best thing is to drink before and then go to wee!"

Oh dear, I've always always felt urgency just after drinking water, especially at night!

I suffered my first bleeding UTI at the age of 3. I believe that my journey with IC began then. I am now 31 and was officially diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I have spent more time than I can explain to you here sitting on the toilet with my head against the wall with a bottle of water at my feet. In fact, much of my teen years were spent this way or on antibiotics for a phantom infection that must exist--either the infection existed or I was making up the symptoms. They chose to believe the latter and graciously gave me the antibiotics.

Though I have not known its name for very long, IC has been in my life since before I can remember. Now I am working for the day when I can forget it.

I never had any urinary problems at all, not even bed wetting. My IC symptoms started with freq/urg and pressure over a day that I was traveling. I am grateful that I was diagnosed within a few weeks of the onset of my symptoms.
