SS Help - please help!

Should I hire an attorney to help with the first application for disabilty or do most wait to be denied to involve an attorney? i have had IC and Fibromyalgie for over 5 years. I have a grad. degree but can't work from the horrible pain.

My lawyer told me that I had to get denied the first time, then you send for an appeal, and you will get denied again ( more than likely). At this point, you will need a lawyer to get you a hearing in front of a judge. I started the whole process last August of 2007 and have my hearing this Friday. I am nervous and not sure what to expect, but will ask my lawyer before the hearing. Good Luck.

It is up to you but I would try on your own and see what happens. That is what I did!

Exactly as Jen said is what I would tell you. Do it first on your own. First denial get an attorney. File on line and take your time. Be complete and precise . If you have a grad degree you can do this on line very competent.
sss.gov . You can start and stop anytime and come back to where you were.
