I Am new here to this site, having a hard time trying to figure out where to post things. I am so sick, four and a half years of IC and severe endometreosis, but for two months now, I have severe rectal pain, does anybody have that? I am so sick, it is spreading, whatever this is, my urethra is the worst pain, but my rectum hurts inside, I don't know, does anyone else have rectal pelvic pain? Sigh

Amy I just had the scare of my life. I had what I thought was a tumor just outside my retum. It was rather large and my rectum would sometimes cause what I describe as a lighting strike if I forgot and sat down hard. My Family Doctor sent me to a specialist. It turned out to be the hemerrioid from hell. It ran deep inside as well. This Doctor was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable as I was most embarassed. He put me on a high fiber diet and a suppository I use very night. I already am much better. I was so afraid I had a cancer. Please Please go see a Doctor right away. I made myself sick with worry for no reason. Had it been a cancer I feel they could have fixed it sooner then later. I have no idea at all if it has anything to do with IC. Your post may help many people. Thank you! Hugs, Ziggy

Yes, from a fissure.

I have it too if I don't take Kristalose and get constipated ---> rectal bleeding---->rectal pain.
I saw a colorectal surgeon and suggested colonoscopy for what I'm scheduled...tehy don't want to treat you unless you undergo colonoscopy to rule out other "things". I understand that from the liability stand point.
If you have rectal pain you have to take care of that, as the nerves are very close to each otehr an that can aggravate IC or VV...not fun at all.
I sugggest you to see a gastronterologist or colorectal surgeon sooner rather than later.

Thanks, I really messed myself up, as usaual, helping myself leads to a disaster.
I decided to drink "some" milk of magnesia, thinking I would clear out my bowels and maybe it would be constipation causing the pain.
Well, I DRANK HALF THE BOTTLE, I sat on the toilet from two nights ago, and I am still going. What a dope. I figured I am so constipated it might take a little more, what an idiot:loco: so, it did nothing to helpthe pain, as I am beyond cleared out with bowels. Anyhow, the pain is so sore. I thought like mizzy, maybe a possible hemroiid, went out last night and got preparation H supositories and cream, nothing has helped, it is the oddest feeling, like it's all moving, not in my bowels, but in my rectum, it is the creepiests/scary feeling, like as bad as the burning to the urethra, it is just this moving stabbing feeling.
When I met the ob, she is the one who mention Lupron, she also said she wanted me to see a man who does really good ultra sounds, to rule everything out. She felt an ultrasound would show things better than an MRI, so I need to call and get that set up.
My other question, I will research other posts, but HOW CAN PHSICAL THERAPY HELP, when I know that is the answer, but how can anybody handle the pain as I cannot handle being examined up there, how could physical therapy be tolerated with the pain endorphines which are still so high for me, I am still taking the anti-nausea medicine, I am going that route, verse the Lupron as everything I have read is terror, there is a site like this site for ENDO, and only one person said a good thing about Lupron, most swore their bodies became serious ill permanently from Lupron, so I won't do that now, and I was so hopeful, but I am already depressed, don't have a husband to help me should anything be as bad as it sounds, I can't go through more, but yet I need help.
Anyhow, DON'T EVER DRINK HALF A BOTTLE OF MILK OF MAGNESIA, dear God, talk about being sore from going and going, I feel like death..:bonk:

I did- horribly- but from endometriosis not IC. After my hysterectomy it is gone, thank goodness :)
ETA- I had endo on my bowels and in the "cul de sac" so I'm sure that's what caused it.

Jen, do you really think it could be the endo in there?

hello, yes horribly, my pt for my pfd worked with me the last time i was there and it seems to be getting better. She says that everything is connected Muscle wise there and if the pelvic floor is screwed up, the rectal muscles can be too. there is times i have such painfull bm's, my eyes tear up and I sweat. sometimes it feels like a hot rod is being shoved up my rectum. But we are all so different, i agree with some of the other girls, you might want to get it checked out just to be on the sage side.
God Bless:pray:

I don't know for you, but I know it was for me. Mine was a burning, "downward" pressure feeling- it was horrible mid cycle and during my period. I also had rectal bleeding around my period that the doctor kept saying was probably internal hemmerhoids (sp?) but I haven't had a bit of that since my hysterectomy ether. Sometimes when I sat down on the toilet it felt as if my guts were just going to come right out. Sorry if this is gross, just tyring to describe the pain I had. It was really sharp and shooting during BM's.

Yes Jen, I feel like my guts are all about to fall out, I feel that everything is sliced back together and put back inside me, from my rectum to my bladder and vagina, everything is sliced and sore, just not well.
How was your hysterectomy, how long did it take for recovery, if I ever do this, my dream, how much help did you need, etc?
Thanks,
Amy

It took 6 weeks for me to return to work/ housework, and I was still sore after that. You definitely would need help around the house for the first 6 weeks- I wasn't even allowed to sweep. I had a vaginal/lap assist DaVinci hysterectomy- I should have had a shorter recovery time because it's more advanced, except my endo was so bad. Had my doctor not have used the DaVinci, my recovery time would probably have been longer. But, I had endo all over my uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, bowels, and bladder. That was 6 months after a lap/ablation surgery where my doctor burned off a ton of endo.
A REALLY great site that really helped me is www.hystersisters.com

I have rectal pain when my bladder is flaring bad. It spasms so hard that it actually causes rectal pain. I have had lots of tests and colonoscopy and both the gastro dr. and my urologist both agree its from the IC. I usually take xanax for the spasms, either of them and it settles down or at least is tollerable. I also increase my ditropan and it helps the rectal spasms. That stabbing pain is horrible, I don't get it alot anymore, I used to get it for weeks on end. I usually have DMSO treatments when it goes on and on. I feel for you, good luck getting some help. Pain meds never touched it for me.

Kelly, I think you are right. As far as I can go to let the pain meds go down to see how it is, I feel the spasms go so severe, and it tells me they are trembling to my rectum. So, I think it is possible. They started me three days ago on oxbutyin, three times a day, will they work immediately, or sometime to get the bladder spasms down, I was taking detrol, just like these oxbutyin, just a little relief. DOES IT TAKE TIME FOR THESE ANTISPASMADICS TO KICK IN. I am on day three of the oxbutyin, is it too early to tell or should I know by now, cannot take Pyridium, allergic.
Pleases let me know, thanks

Amy,
It took a few days for my bladder to settle down when starting ditropan, I take the XL. It stays more constant for me. It also helps my bowel,it seems that when my bladder starts spasming, it makes my bowel start. My uro says it than effects all the muscles and nerves in that area. Thats why xanax or valium help, its the pelvic area. I used to freak about taking xanax, but I take a low dose and I have learned that if it helps me live a more normal life without constant stabbing pain, it is worth it. You can e-mail me if you want.

I don't think it takes time for antispasmodics to kick in...
and also it depends on if they are the extended release type (the ones you only take once a day) or if they are the regular kind...
when i was on the once a day ones it definitely starts workin quick...3-4 days and things are really calmed down...
the thing that i found that didn't help and made the antispasmodic not be effective if i strain going to the bathroom or something like that or if stress comes up and also if you have a food/drink trigger...
but if you have a day you can sorta take a breath to relax a bit then it definitely does help....
but some people find that some work better than others...some people swear by detrol and i have incontinence issues with it.....and some people love ones like vesicare or sanctura and some have severe retention with those...
and some just can't take them at all...
something that definitely does work is muscle relaxants....they definitely help..so might want to look into that....for example flexeril or something like valium to calm ya down or something...
i hope this sorta helps ya
and hope that you get relief real real soon :pray:

Having a bowwel movement definitely makes the vaginal burning a lot worse for me. I need to be sure to use something like Miralax or Senacort every night as I have an issue with constipation and that just compounds all the problems. I have had these problems for 14 years now and I am not going to give up the fight. My number one issue is severe FATIGUE. I do not know how to start a thread on that or even post a question about it. Could someone do that for me. I would be curious to see what people have taken that makes this worse and what they can tolerate and be functional. Another problem that I have is anxiety. When the pain is bad and I have had pain each and every day for all this time it causes such anxiety that I get nauseated.

Grammy...if you are on prescribed medications...it looks like you are having side effects of medications that slow down the metabolism. Example: fatigue and constipatition. Pain meds, antidepressants etc slow down the metabolism, that's the reason why many of us end up with this problem.
I didn't have any constipation before pain medications.
What we need to do is be proactive and prevent it:
A few of the tips above described, a stool softerener or a laxative, drink plenty of water.
For the ones taking laxatives is is recommendable to take a good probiotic b/c laxatives wash away much of the intestinal flora.
If you don't fall in the above category, you should check with your doctor. There may be other causes for Fatigue and Constipation. Hope you get better.
