View Full Version : What do do when you need to "go" in the car?

Hi, are there any products out there that can help with this awkward situation - other than diapers/pads or a coffee can?
We used to love to take road trips but after one horrendous experience driving from Chicago to Galena, Il (no restrooms after you leave Rockford) when I think I actually damaged my bladder I had to "go" so bad.
I always dreamed about getting one of those VW Westfalia's - the old hippy camper with the plaid curtains - as they could be equipped with tiny toilets, stoves, etc - I love the idea of having your house on wheels and traveling all around the country. (My brother even took his Westfalia to Europe and never had to stay in a hotel.)
Anyway, I digress - are there any products that would make this emergency "going" process any easier in a....station wagon?
I want to get those dark sun filters you can get for the windows but, in addition, I know I would feel a lot better if I had something to use - if I really couldn't hold it any longer.

Take a look at these things. They are available in the ICN Shop. I carry Travel Johns in my glove box. Just click on this link: http://www.icnsales.com/Travel-Aids-p-1-c-50.html

Thanks. I went to the "store" but I guess I didn't hit on the right topic.
I don't think I could ever use the pads but the "pop up" room is intriguing. I just wonder how you would use it? Not on this side of a highway that's for sure. I guess you could exit and look for a vacant lot with no one around.
Has anyone ever used one?

I can not give you the link but you can google "Shewee" This is a neat device that will let you pee while you are traveling in a car, you can use a bottle in an emergency.

I have an abdominal stoma for my continent Indiana Pouch so I use a male urinal for anyone who has this or something like it. I also bring a towel to wrap around myself for privacy. I'd like the tinted windows too, awesome thought!

Roandro... I don't think I could ever use the pads
Are you speaking about the Travel Johns? They are not pads. They are like urinals that are disposable.
I like the idea of the pop-up tent, also. I have not used one, but I think they would be great for time at the beach, lake, picnic area, camping...things like that.

Try looking up East Whiz too. It is pretty cool and allows you to pee anywhere a man can. :)

Last weekend I had to go to my cousins baby shower down the jersey shore, It took an hr there. comin home we sat in 3 1/2 hrs of traffic!!! and about 1/2 into the drive home a UTI hit me full force.... I sat in the back seat of my car with a plastic bag and a sweater covering me the entire way home while my sister drove us home. OMG IT WAS HORRIBLE!!!!

Rachel...Egads!!! How awful!!!! Traffic jams are pure misery, but add the symptoms of a UTI and it is off the charts. I am so sorry. I hope you are feeling better, today.

I'll never forget the agony on that road with no restrooms from Rockford to Galena. I was crawling all over the seat in misery. By the time we got to the old train station in Galena (restroom) I was ready to pass out.
When I finally "went" it went on for like 10 minutes. Sweet relief afterwards but I really think I damaged my bladder as it was all downhill (bladder-wise) after that (spring 2006.)

We used to have a mini-van and we carried a porta-pot, like the ones you use on boats, etc. It's easier if you wear a dress. You don't need to find a secluded place even.
Now we have a little car so I carry a Travel John in my purse on any trips.

Thanks for the great information. I'm going to order some Travel John's tonight! I think knowing they are "there" will help my anxiety about traveling altho I would rather have a camper that had a tiny toilet!
Maybe someday....
I have used travel johns and they work good but one of the others mentioned looks intesting to me also. I work with men and sometimes there are no bathrooms available so I find myself squatting over a bucket with my pants down in our utility trailer or wherever else I can find for a little privacy. Not having to "bare my behind" is rather appealing and I may have to try one of those. Thanks!:)
