The discomfort sometimes subsides fairly quickly after being up a while. It seems rather consistent to have this and I wonder why. I suppose it's the need to urinate after a long 8-9 hours of not urinating. Anyone experience this too?

I definately feel worse in the mornings, when I first wake up, then I do after that. Though, I DO go to the restroom several times during the night. I think it is because my bladder is still fuller and also because the urine is more concentrated and acidic then that is the rest of the day. After I go, it does help, but I still have to take my breakthru meds every morning, since by that time the pain is usually very intense and has moved beyond just my bladder, to also my lower back and the rest of my abdomen.
Maybe it would help some if we took an antacid or something before bed. I dont know, but I think alot of ICers probobly are worse then than at any other time. (Though, for me, I do have pain the rest of the day too, it's just worse in the mornings.)

I have the same problem. I am often up 2 or 3 times night to pee as well even when I'm not flaring. 5-6 times when I am flaring. I wake up almost every morning with some degree of pain, burning etc.. I think it is due to the urine being more concentrated. I don't really need an alarm clock because my bladder usually wakes me up in plenty of time to get ready for work.
