View Full Version : Enablex while trying to conceive??

Ok, so it has come upon that time of month when my fiance & I will be able to begin trying to conceive. However, I have been in a flare for a week  I have had numerous tests done & a bladder infection has totally been ruled out (thank god)!! The worst symptoms of this flare is the constant need to go to the bathroom & the pain & pressure that goes along with it when my bladder begins to fill even just a tiny bit. My OB doc wants me to drink plenty of fluids though & I understand why.
I try to take only natural supplements (as listed below in my sig), but I was wondering if any of you have taken any overactive bladder meds while trying to conceive or while pregnant??
I saw my doc yesterday & didn't even think to ask...although he has me on Klonopin & says he wants me to stay on that. Now I know that Enablex is a class C, so it's rated better than Klonopin which is a D. I just cannot stand this constant & painful urge to pee all the time & I know that it will make trying to conceive almost impossible :( Can anyone share their stories?? :help:

Just got off the phone with the pharmacy & they said I could take it, cause right now the need out weighs the risk. They said that a lot of people take class C meds during pregnancy. The OB office called & said that a class C wasn't good, but yet they are allowing me to be on a class D drug :loco: That wasn't my OB doc talking though, that was just a nurse. She said they are kinda out of their league over there with this whole IC thing & to follow up with a Uro, but my OB doc told me to stick with him and that he would follow me through this whole IC process. Besides, when I saw my uro, she did nothing anyways
It's not like I am planning to take the Enablex long term...just want some relief from this horrid flare. And I can still continue on my natural things too. If I get pregnant this month, it'll be a blessing (if we are able to try over the next few days). If not, than we will shoot for it next month.
But again, any of your stories about overactive bladder meds would be wonderful :) Ok, I am off to drink more water now :toilet:

I know that I am posting on my own thread once again :loco: But since taking the one pill of Enablex this morn, I still have urge to pee, but it's not as painful as yesterday. Meaning that I can actually walk instead of being doubled over with pain above my public bone
I do have a homeopathic supplement here at home for this problem. I may try that instead of the Enablex, since I am trying to get pregnant. It is called Enuraid & it's from the maker's at Hyland's. You let three tablets melt away under your tongue. I have the same type of thing for bladder pain & that works wonders. So, maybe I'll switch to the natural method.
Well, I am bout to go take an ovulation test. I am only on day 10 of my cycle, so I doubt I'll get a surge. But this is the day when my doc told me to begin testing  Hugs too you all & I'm really hoping that all of us women who want to fall pregnant are able to do so....even during a flare

I tried to not take an Enablex this morning & just used the homeopathic treatment. However, around 1 o'clock this afternoon my bladder began to spazz & the urge to go to the bathroom was horrid!! Felt as if my baldder was going to fall out. So, again today, I took a 7.5 pill of Enablex. I know there are people who take worse things while trying to conceive or during pregnancy...but if you have taken an overactive bladder med during those times, can you please share your story :help: My pharmacist said it was fine, but I still worry  My bladder is sore now, cause I was trying to hold off untill 2 o'clock, so that I could pee on my ovulation strip. I made it till then (thank god). I haven't reached my LH surge yet. It's now only day 11 of my cycle though.
Hope to hear from someone on here soon

I am relatively newcomer to IC and certainly not as well versed as some of the other members but I couldn't help notice you are taking cranberry capsules. I am almost certain that would be considered a problem.

I remember before my IC diagnosis I was drinking lots of cranberry juice thinking it would help. Finally, one day I realized that I felt much worse after drinking it. Not long after that, I found this site and I've learned so much from the other members.

Sorry, I can't help you with your original question.

Actually hun...I forgot to take that off my sig. I am not taking the cranberry capsules. I took one about a month ago & had to pee all the time. Nope, this time is just my bladder being stupid all on it's own

I can only tell you that of the 4 Urge Incontinence meds I have been on,Enablex was the worst for me. I got to the point in a short 2 weeks that I couldn't even pass urine. I came off it by myself. I have been on Ditrapan,Detrol La and Vesicare. All meds took about a week to kick in and give some relief.I am presently on Vesicare and still get up most nights 5 or 6 times. I did not try to get pregnant though,I'm 66 years old.

I have tried all of the other OAB meds & Enablex has been the only one that has worked in the past. I just could not handle this flare anymore & needed to take something. But that is all I took & have found some relief. It's not that I am just taking all sorts of bad meds & trying to get pregnant. I don't want to harm any baby I may conceive though!!
My doc said it's cool for me to be on Klonopin & that is a class D drug. So Enablex is class C.

We all do respond to meds differently. I'm glad it gave you some relief. Good luck with the try at conception! Jo
