I have to have a stress test due to plaque in my arteries. Since my bladder screams when I walk through a large store and standing on my feet for a long time also hurts me, I'm wondering if I can get through this? Anyone else here has taken this test ? Any problems? I don't want to sound or act like a big sissy but I doubt the Doctor who does this test will understand the problems with IC. Right now I intend to give it my best shot but I'm worried he/she will get very mad at me if I can't do all they want me to do. I'd be most grateful for any advice. Hugs, Ziggy

There is a medication they can give you that makes the heart work hard just like the stress test does. I don't know the name of it, but I do know I have heard of it being given to people who cannot do the usual stress test. Talk with you doctor about this option. At least it would open up a conversation about what is concerning you about the test.

At the time my husband had his stress test, he was having severe back problems and they did give him a medication instead of the treadmill.

Like both Sharon and Donna said there is a medication for this as well. My husband had to have one a few years ago and because of his "bad knees" he couldn't do this the usual way. So, yes talk to your doctor.

If its any consolation, a stress test doesnt usually last too very long. From personal experience the Dr had my heart rate up within just a few minutes. This was prior to IC, however even today I wouldnt consider a stress test to be challenging where the bladder is concerned.
Like mentioned, dont hesitate to discuss your concerns with your cardiologist. i'm sure s/he will be more than willing to put all of your fears to rest.
Wishing you well...

I think the other stress test is called a Nuclear Stress Test. My uncle has horrible arthritis in his knees and hips, so he can't do the regular stress test. They always give him the other one, which doesn't require a treadmill.

The medication they use is called Cardiolite. This test is done in the hospital and I'm sure its much more expensive as its a nuclear medicine study. I have had two stress tests on a treadmill, the first was before IC. The second time was after I I came down with it and before I was diagnosed . I had to get permission first from the Uro I was going to at the time and he said "sure." Bladder throbbed the entire time I ran and after the test too. Too embarassed to admit I couldn't run I guess. Both times they insisted I run without a bra, remember that if you are well endowed. They said no bra or no test!
