Could My 5-year Old Have Ic?

Hi, I was FINALLY diagnosed with IC about 8 years ago, after many incredibly frustrating years. Anyway, my daughter has been diagnosed by her doctor as having recurring "bladder infections" and I'm wondering if is possible she could also have IC. My doctor says it is unlikely but I've had many doctors who said the same thing about me! Does anyone know if IC is inherited and has anyone had a child that has been diagnosed?

Have the infections been confirmed through a U/A or culture? If they are true infections she probably does not have IC. If they are testing her but the tests keep coming back negative for infection and she still FEELS like she has an infection - then you might want to explore that possibility. Can you tell us a little more about that and what her symptoms are like?

It is possible the she might have IC. It is also possible that what she is having are bladder infections. From what I understand, it is not uncommon for little girls to get infections because they are not wiping correctly.

It is not certain if IC is hereditary, but there are some members who have family who also have it. As far as I know, I am the only one in my family who does.

I hope you and her doctor are able to get to the cause of her problems. It is so difficult when our wee ones are hurting.

It's not unusual for little girls to have bladder infections. If she's being tested and actually had infections, you might want to work with your doctor on ways to prevent them. If the infections are being confirmed by culture, she probably doesn't have IC.

hey I just wanted to let you know that I started having symptoms when i was 4 years old maybe even earlyer. The drs told me i had uti's but there was no bacteria found. If your daughter complains please get her tested because after so many years of anti biotics i became immune to them! PM me if you have any questions!
