View Full Version : Prolapsed bladder making IC symptoms worse??

I'm very new here, so please bear with me as I ask many stupid questions!

Here goes: I have a friend who has had bladder troubles for years. When I told her that my new urologist thinks I have IC, she said, "Oh! That's what I have!" This lady does have urgency/frequency, but still drinks coffee, etc, so I'm thinking her pain can't be too bad (??). Anyway, she also said that her doctor told her that she needs to have her prolapsed bladder fixed (again!) because that is what is causing her IC :loco:

Is this true, or is she just confused/misinformed? Can a prolapsed bladder cause IC symptoms? Can a prolapsed bladder AGGRAVATE an IC bladder?? The reason I'm asking is that I have a slightly prolapsed bladder (I do have a wee bit of incontinence when I'm flaring, and if I cough hard, etc, but not usually), and have not really gotten to the point that I thought I needed surgery yet. BUT, if it's causing or aggravating my symptoms, perhaps I should see about having it done now?

What do you all think??

There are varying levels of IC. Your friend may have interstitial cystitis and just not have a severe case. She might do better if she followed an IC diet.

I had a bladder prolapse, but mine was so severe that my bladder was visible in my vagina and I had a lot of residual urine. I have a sling. It didn't cause any increase in my IC symptoms, but if mine had been left alone, I could very easily have had a lot of infections. Mine "dropped" fairly suddenly and I had surgery within three months of when it happened.

When my bladder issue appeared it was thought my symptoms were due to prolapse (uterus/bladder/rectum). After having been dismissed by a URO, my GYN was the one who thought prolapse was the culprit. I agreed to a vaginal hysterectomy along with anterior and posterior repairs, only to wake up from surgery with the same symptoms.
It was until 8 months post-op that I sought out a new Dr (UROGYN) who informed me that the symptoms I was experiencing pre-hyst would not be caused by a prolapsed bladder. This has also been told to me by my current URO (who works with my UROGYN to treat my IC).

Just my two cents---it would be wise to get several different opinions before agreeing to any type of surgery.

Wishing you well...
