View Full Version : Not to be gross but my urine smelled like a zoo.

I've only had this a few times lately but the last one was today at the movies.
I thought I had a uti 3 weeks ago but a culture test indicated there was no infection.
Since that time I've had occasional burning and cloudy urine (I take baking soda and water each day so I thought that might explain the latter) but I've been feeling much better this week so today I was quite surprised by the barnyard like smell of my urine, although I hadn't drunk much water and I hadn't "gone" in almost 4 hours.
Gross!! If I don't have a uti - any ideas what might cause the smell? I don't have it all the time - like I didn't have it when I came home.
I take vaginal Estrace and homeopathic remedies -I wonder if they could be the culprits.
Should I go back for another culture? That would be my 3rd one in 2 months!
(I did have a confirmed uti in May) This infection thing is rather new to me - I never had one in my life until last year - now 2 in a matter of months? Yikes!
Thanks

Have you by chance eaten any asparagus? This will cause your pee to stink. Also, I would only do another culture if you are having worsening pain and frequency as this would indicate a UTI. There are times when I know my urine smells odd as well. I refered to it once as smelling like a dead rat.
Oh, also I noticed you do alot of homeopathy stuff for your IC. Does the cantharis help you with the burning? Also, I just went to see a homeopathic doc, she is also a MD. She wants me to try this stuff called arsenicum. She said it is to help with the burning bladder and the cystitis. Just curious if you tried it.

I just responded to you on your post re: homeopathy.

We should "do lunch" as we seem to be in the same boat and are both trying to solve it the same way - without rx's and a lot of medical protocols.

The more I "googled" my foul smelling urine problem I knew it could only indicate a UTI - which it did.
Some new information to add to my quiver - along with the obvious ones of burning, painful urination, urge/frequency, etc - smell!

And its not hard to identify either! I thought - can this horsebarn smell be coming from me??? I was shocked.
