I started burning right after my potassium test and only in the last 2 days has it quit. It's been 6 or 7 weeks. Are you using Pyridium or using baking soda in water? They really help me.

Define Normal.
Could you have a UTI? Have you been checked? I would ask for some pyridium.
hugs, Michelle.

I read back on your post earlier. Are you still on the Noratriptyline? Have you also been following the diet. I know you are just learning about the diet, and it does take a while to see a difference, but starting out on a few of the okay foods should help just in case you are diet sensitive. I ate alot of baked chicken, rice and potatoes at first.
For me the Noratriptyline wasn't nearly as effective as the Amitriptyline. Have you called your doctor to see if he can offer any other suggestions?

Do they have a stand in doc while he's on vacation? Maybe a nurse practitioner? Call back and ask! Your health is important!!

Like Michelle said, call and at least ask for the doctor to give you a call or have the nurse give your doctor a message, especially with him going on vacation. The doctors normally have a doctor to step in. I don't particularly like my doctor's stand in, but he at least gives me the meds I need, but I have been going to that office for quite awhile now. I don't know of anything that works right away, most meds it takes some time. That is why my doctor made sure I had pain meds so that I could get through my worst times of burning.
I am glad you are working with the diet. Also as Sharon said, be careful about what is in your water. My city's water supply doesn't bother my IC, but when I go to Nashville or my mom's house in Arkansas, I have to take spring water to drink or my bladder will be irritated.
AZO is also something you can try because many people have had some relief from the burning with it. It's over the counter. I have used Cystistat before when I felt like I was dealing with a UTI and that seemed to help as well. It's the red pills.
Just hang in there and make your doctor know how important it is that you are taken care of. Don't let their office put you off when you are dealing with pain.

I did not know that baking soda will help with burning.

It's been a while since I used it, but I put about a teaspoon in warm water and mixed it up really good and drank it. Another trick I used was use Alker Seltzer. Have you looked at the self-help section. I haven't looked at it in a while, but it should have some tips that may help you too. Since Prydium doesn't help, try Cystistat (the red pills). It really helped me a few weeks ago when I thought I had a UTI. I can't take Pyridium either, but I had burning, so I tried the Cystistat. Someone please correct me if I am off on the baking soda amount.
This is what I read really quickly on self help about the baking soda:
. You could help alkalinize your urine by using Prelief, taking some TUMS or by drinking a large glass of water with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in it. Using baking soda is extreme and should not be done frequently. Of course, this is the time to go back to your conservative IC diet so that you don't irritate your bladder further.
My doctor totally doesn't recommend this, but you may have to go to the ER for relief. Most don't know about IC, which is why my doctor urges me to call his service if I am having problems if it is during off hours.

Are you able to get prescribed urelle (utira-c is the generic) or prosed? Those two meds seem to help me alot more than pyridium. Also I started using a natural supplement called cantharis. You can find it at whole foods market or on line. It only cost's about 6 bucks for a tube that lasts about 8 days. You take 5 tiny pills three times a day. I was really pleased with the results and if it doesn't work, then you are bankrupt for trying it! I hope this helps. Good luck to you. PS I also drink some club soda which helps when I burn - it has sodium bicarbonate in it - just make sure you can handle the carbonation. I don't have issues with that.
