View Full Version : Anyone else pee messy??

I have an odd question, so please forgive me:angel: When I urinate, it is very messy. I mean it does not go straight in the toilet, it goes all over down my butt area and I usually always have to dry off alot after I go. I also noticed that sometimes well actually alot of times when I pee it comes out real fast in a thin fast spray. it shoots straight foward, I mean on time it actually went through the crack between the seat and tolilet bowel and went on the floor( sorry that was gross, I know). Then there are times that it just comes out I guess you could say with not alot of pressure and does not even make a sound when I go. But it is always messy. Do any of you have this issue? I asked my urogyne and he was not much help. He just said it could be anything, or nothing. He said that some peoples streams change intermittingly. Any replies would be appreciated.

I'm there with ya'!
Try leaning forward while peeing. Works for me.

Yep same problem. Makes it very difficult to give a "clean catch" urine sample. One of the OBs I saw (not my regular dr) when I had my last flare was scolding me for giving a dirty sample. I said listen lady my stream does not come out straight!

Thanks Michelle and Charisse.
Yes Carisse, I know what you mean about the urine sample thing, but when I give a urine sample, I always stand up over the toliet to do this, kind of like in a skier's position. It does not seem as bad that way, but I do not want to stand when I pee every time because it is uncomfortable that way, especially on my lower back. I also get more than one stream at times as well. It is weird.

Prior to taking Prosed, I had a weak stream most of the time, so it was not messy, but once the Prosed kicked in and did it's thing, the phrase my grandmother use to say when I was growing up "need to pee like a racehorse" came to mind. Since my urine is blue due to the Prosed DS, I knew that the waterline on the toilet was getting blue, but I didn't realize (yes I am embarrassed to say this) but when I lifted up my toilet seat to give my toilet a good cleaning I couldn't believe how messy it was under the girlie seat. I had to get out my thick scrubbing stuff and even put papertowels on it to help the thick stuff stay put so that I could get rid of the blue stain. Now I only pee in my bathroom at home. I leave the hall bath to company only because the blue is practically impossible to totally clean off. When I am at someone else's house, I do a couple of flushes and it's not like I sit there forever like I used to. I just sit down and go "like a racehorse", but I am very careful that there is no evidence of the blue!

I know what you mean. I also did not realize that when I peed, it was going so straight forward that it was going over the side of the bowl, at least not until I got up and saw the pee on the floor! I thought it was just me with this odd issue.

Oh yes, I have told Dr. Ling. Mine is from finally peeing normally, it just because of the lovely blue stain that I noticed it. I do not have issues with giving specimens. My urine stream does go straight down, just the splash factor!

I never mentioned it to the Dr. as I didn't connect it to the IC. Will be getting a treatment Monday and will try to remember to mention it.

I've not mentioned it to my doc either. Honestly, I haven't seen my uro since Feb of 2007. He's a 4 hour drive away and unless I want to change my treatment he is helping me by refilling meds via phone.
When I see him again I will mention it though.

Could this have to do with PFD?
I say that because it is caused by muscle spasms in the uro genital area.
I know right away when mine kicks in as my bm's don't come out straight and I have to lean waaaaay over to the right to get them out.
Sorry for grossness but I want to be clear!!

:biglaugh: Roandro~ I think we passed grossness a long time ago! :biglaugh:
Besides, who else can we be this open and honest with?
Do you relaly think our hubbies or children want to head about
our messy peeing or difficult BM?

I always thought it was just me lol y fiance says to me all the time " Babe are you sure your not part toddler male ? cause you pee EVERYWHERE !! " Oh well! leaning forward in the about to "ski jump position" helps me too :) Also a tip for not peeing all over yourself ans speciman cup ,I hold the cup pressed against myself to contain the force that is my urine lol Oh and I have also peed all over myself , my panties and jeans while out and about ! Michelle I like your saying " we r oddballs , but at least we bounce together " , lol its awesome !!

Thanks Lauren. We are oddballs, but this site has helped me for YEARS. About 10 years in fact. CLose anyway.
I also keep the cup pressed to my body while collecting a sample. It says not to let it touch you but who the heck cares!! What, is there a camera in the potty making sure we do it a certain way??
Sorry, I must have eaten a bowl of "I'm full of it" this evening.

Oh my gosh...me too! Sometimes my pee is just flying everywhere around the toliet bowl and I can't control it. I could pee in a cup fine years ago before IC struck. Thanks for posting this because I feel better now knowing I'm not alone. I mentioned it to my doctor once and he gave me a puzzled look and went on to change the subject.

I am so glad to hear this happens to other people too. I tend to urinate in more than one stream and it sometimes will get all over the toilet seat. I have also experienced the urinating on my panties and pants while using a public restroom. Ugh! It takes me forever to clean the seat and floor up. Then I am walking around with wet panties and pants. LOL!

I was cleaning my toilet the other day (and I have noticed in the past but not really thought about it) but when I lifted the seat there was blue and orange speckled stains from pydrium and the Utria-C!!! I 409ed, cloroxed nothing they were there to stay!! The underneath of my toilet seat looks like a bad easter egg dye job!! :bunny: My Husband was like how exactly do you accomplish this? I told him I had No clue, other then when I got to go, I got to go!! When people come over Absolutely No Men are allowed to use the master bathrooms toilet!! I can just see some of my husbands friends after a few and lift the seat and see my dye job!!!:hmm:
So, Yes I pee messy too!! It goes everywhere but straight down! And, I'm like another person who mentioned it, I think it related to our Pelvic Floor Dysfunction rather then our IC!! We can't make our muscles do what they are suppose to, so our urine goes everywhere!! I remember when I could do the CUP thing and sraight flow and now I'm chasing my urine all over the blow!! Quite messy, but what do you do!! I'd rather take in one of my 10' caths then pee in a cup these days!! Those buggers are so small they don't hurt and I know the pee will go straight into the cup!!:woohoo:

whew, I thought it was just me. I also have pfd..
I passed embarrassment long ago when I had 2 interstims, nothing like laying on an o.r. table with your butt cheeks tapped open. :biglaugh:

I actually do not think it is related to PFD because I have no issues with having BM's, though one never knows. Also, my husband was saying something interesting. When we sit at the toilet, our urethra's are actually not pointing straight down, but a little on a angle. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not though. But at least I now know I am not alone. Like I said, I asked my urogyne about this and he did not say much( meaning he had no clue likely).
I was reading this book I bought though and it is called you dont have to live with cystitis anymore. Anyhow, the doctor who wrote this book mentioned that a weak urine steam could very well possibly be from a problem in the lower back. She said that alot of women who have even slight lower back pain , that it could cause issues with bladder emptying and having a weaker stream. I have alot of back pain so maybe she is on to something.

Hey Jen, I had hurt my back a year or so prior to my symptoms of IC, but it wasn't my lower back, but they still did all kinds of tests to see if that could have been my situation, especially since I was a candidate for the interstim. I told them that it was a minor injury and I was up and going within a few days. My right leg went into a hole that was about to my waist. I actually had injury to my neck from the jarring motion. Anyway, my doctor at the time had a couple patients that believed their IC was from a back injury. We just couldn't find the connection for me.
Back to the peeing issue. I too have the only husband peeing in our bathroom rule! As I posted earlier in this tread I had a lovely blue spots on the bottom of my "sissy seat" as my husband calls it. I normally lean forward out of habit from my hard to pee days, but now I can just pee normally, but I do pee alot and my stream is quite normal these days which of course has the splash effect. What I did was use the thick clorox liquid stuff all over the seat almost like a paste and then put paper towels all over the bottom of the lid to allow it to soak in. It got rid of most of the blue dey. Now when I go to the bathroom, I only use our master bathroom and I flush the toilet while I am peeing so that it doesn't have the splash. It works most of the time.
I went to a friend's house over the weekend for a Sunday school get together. The couple that had the party had just built this house, so I was so careful to not leave any "evidence". I got some paper towels and got them a little damp and tore it and placed it on bottom of the seat. Plus I did my flushing. Then through the paper towels away. When I told hubby what I did because he knew I was anxious about it, he teased me that I had should invent toilet seat covers for the bottom of the lids.

i also thought i was the only one! i havent been diagnosed with PFD but i think i might have it from reading others stories, I dont know for sure what causes the messy pee but if there is ever a cure/solution ( i tried the skier pose lol ) let me know! :)

OK, remember that i am an oddball...
I was justin the bathroom and noticed that some cat food was spiled out of the dish, so I'm leaning over to pick it up off the floor and peeing at the same time... sitting on the potty... and I peed straight down!!
Cool, huh?

Jen,
When I went in May to see one of the best URO/GYNO/PELVIC Specialist in North Carolina one of his first questions while examining me was," do you have low back pain?" and he pressed right to where my back usually hurts and I said "yes!!" He countinued to tell me this pain wasn't coming from my back or my endometriosis but from my bladder!! I looked at him crossed eyed and said "my bladder???" and he said "YES." And, ever since he pointed this out to me, I have noticed that it really is my bladder causing my back pain! If I'm flaring it will hurt and sometimes my bladders Flaring and it is only back pain I'm having!! Crazy Stuff!! He is a MD, PHD and Research Scientist for IC so I think he pretty much knows all there is to know about IC, endometriosis, migraines, fibromyalgia, TMJ, vulvodynia. and pelvic floor dysfunction!! He's a brilliant man!! I go to him for the new stuff, but stay with my regular Uro for everything else! Ive seen him since I was 4 yrs old and i'm 31 now. 27 yrs is along time for a doctor- patient relationship!! I trust him whole heartedly!! Dr armstrong and Dr evans work together, whick is nice! I Don't feel like I'm cheating on either doctor!:loco:

Ok, but NOT ALL back pain is caused by ladder. My back pain is not bladder. It's degenerative disc disease. I know there are those who insist that bladder pain is caused by back and vise versa. But, remember, I am the oddball.

PFD reduces the stream and force when you pee. Before taking Dextroamphetamine, I had a really weak stream and now it is approaching normal and not trickling.
Maybe that has something to do with the pee not aiming itself corrrectly???

Ok, I always thought this was normal. Are we sure our non-IC sisters don't have the same situation? I am going to ask my daughters. Thank God we can talk about everything. LOL
Now that I think about it, I have always wondered how women "stand" when they pee. I would never be able to do that.
About toilet seat stains........I always use the master bathroom and never the kids' or the half bath. I too would be mortified if someone lifted the seat.
I have just gotten used to buying a new seat now and then. They can be so expensive though.
Has anyone tried putting a light coat of vaseline or baby oil on the underside of the seat to possibly repel the stains? I keep meaning to try that.

Since my last bladder instill I have been peeing in a straight line. I have also been almost pain free. An occasional quick jab in the urethra and a couple of very warm sensations in my pelvic area is all the discomfort I have had. Urges have not let up though.I have also been working very hard not to "push" urine out and to let my muscles relax. I have even panted like I was in labor to keep from forcing it out. I don't know if that works or not but I am feeling so much better!

I have to agree, my back pain is not from my bladder, it is from my back. The reason I can tell is, there are times my bladder are not so bad, but my back is killing me and vice-versa. A good way to tell is if you twist your hips from side to side and feel pain in the lower back, then it is your back, not the bladder. But they do say that the back can control the way you pee( weak stream and such).
