Hi ladies.
Ok, I am ready to lose it here. I just finished a 14 day course of keflex, actually I took my last dose this last Sunday. I had developed a severe anal itch becuase of it so I though it was maybe a yeast infection so my doctor told me to buy the over the counter external cream(monistsat) to put on the area. Well I did that for a coupld days and went to see her and she said that the irritation did not really look like yeast, but just more of a irritation. She said I could try using a over the counter steroid cream and see if it will help. Well, I did that last night and after I showered this morning I went pee and OH MY GOSH, the burning was awful when the urine hit my perineal area. I looked down there and it is soooo red and inflammed. I do not know what to do. I do not have a gyne right now as mine retired. I have an appointment with a new gyne, but not until september since they are totoally booked.
I shower 2 times a day in order to stay clean. I am very prone to UTI's and have to make sure I am clean, especially after I have bowel movement. I use a gentle soap, ( basis). This issues started after the antibitic though. I was also on benadryl at the time as well since I am sensitive to all antibitoics, I have to take benadryl with them. I do not know which one caused this, but one did for sure. I have been off the drugs for about 4 days now, so think this should be clearing up already. Any advice??
How do I keep it from burning so much down there. Also, when I use the cortisone cream( gynecort) I rub it in real well. I am always afraid that putting creams down there will cause a UTI. ANy advice??

Is it possible it could be hemmoroids??? I am well versed in the joys of them, thanks to having 3 babies. They can cause intense itching/burning & when any pee gets on that inflamed area...OUCH. What I do when they are flaring is just apply a generic store type Hemmoiroid Cream (like Prep. H) & it helps sooo much. Also cold witch hazel works well as a soother on it.
Just an idea!!

Thanks karen. Yes I do have hemmroids as well, but this irritation is also on the perinium area right under the vaginal opening, the skin is very red and inflammed. I know I started out using the external monistat cream for only a couple times, but when I went to my regular doctor, she said well, it does not look like yeast, more of irritation, but you could try using the cortisone cream. then she said in the next breath that if it did happen to be yeast, the cortisone will make it much much worse. I do not know what this is. I was thinking it had to be yeast since I was on an antibiotic before this started, but do not know. Can yeast cause you to be very sore and irritated but not itch so much. My anal area was what was itching before, I mean bad, it was not my hemmroids either because the severe itch was not really where they are, but on the outer skin. I just have to figure out if this is yeast/fungus or irritation. If it is yeast/fungus, then I need the fungal creams, but if it is just irritation, then I need the cortisone. Ugggh, I hate this. And my doctor is not much help in this situation. I miss my gyne.

I used a cream called chromolyn - it is a steriod based cream that is very soothing. I also had it injected directly into my urethral area - not as bad as it sounds! My VV completely went away over the course of 4 months. Another cream that was tried but didn't work for me was called Traumeel. I have seen it at whole foods market. Maybe you can find that and give it a try. My doctor swears alot of her patients do well with the Traumeel - it just didn't work for me. Good luck to you.
