I'm going on August 1st to talk to my dr about getting on dex but I need to have some info to bring him. Can someone post a link to any research that would help me get my dr to prescribe dex. How much to take and what needs to be monitored.....etc. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.
I keep reading about people on a special diet when on dex. Is that just the IC diet and do you have to stay on it. I tried the IC diet years ago with no results and I don't really want to give up my fav foods for something that never worked.

Angel, I asked for the reports too, and someone did list them all in one of these earlier threads. You should be able to find all the info you need. Good luck with your doc!

Angel,
Wofle is right. There are earlier posts on this in the dextro file. Also if you google Dextroamphetamine Sulfate & Interstitial cystitis you will get lots of studies. Please let me know if you can't find any. The IC diet is what everyone is talking about. There is no special diet while being on the Dextro, except Vit C, makes it work less. I still eat a lot of things with Vit C. It does not seem to bother me. The Ic diet did not work for me either. I am not food sensitive. Massive amounts of watermelon seem to bother me and that about it.

copied from another post on dex...
Here are the 2 abstracts that seem the most relevant to me. If anyone has any other articles can they post them too?
**********************************************************
Abstract #1 from The Clinical and Experimental Obstetrics & Gynecology Journal Issue 32. here is a link to the abstract online. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16440825
(or you can search using part of the article name on google if the link doesn't work = "A novel highly effective treatment of interstitial cystitis causing chronic pelvic pain of bladder origin: case reports")

Abstract #2 from The Medical Hypothesis Journal Issue 70
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...e642b124ad4c2a
if that doesn't work you can go to www.sciencedirect.com and search J.H. Check under the author search field. the article name is

Hi Everyone,
Thanks Ca for posting those links! I pasted them into a Word Doc so I can easily access both for future references.
I am over my bout with that horrible viral gastroenteritis that I hope none of you get. I have never been that ill - 103.8 fever. .2 more and I would have gone to the ER. Thank God it came down finally.
Still taking 2 Lomotil a day in order to eat and take the much needed Iron for my anemia. Still feeling a little week, but that's pretty understandable I think. I am definintely feeling better though.
DEX
I am almost pain free from IC and almost pain free from PFD with only 5 mg. Now that the other illness is over, I'm increasing the dose to another 5 at 1:30 PM. I see the psychi Tues. and am hoping he will have a trick to get rid of the D. I think IBS doesn't like Dex in my case. I would be happy taking Lomotil and Dex if that's what it takes. I look forward to feeling even better when I'm on the 5 + 5 dose for a few weeks.
To any of you who are still having pain with standard IC treatments and protocols, I encourage you to do whatever it takes to get an Rx to try this. Also, not giving med advice here, but IMHO, IC patients probably shouldn't take Adderall. It contains saccharate and aspartate as salts to give it its sustained release properties. I know aspartate converts to ASPARTAMINE. Aspartamine for me and I think most IC patients is bladder pain max.
Although, last night I accidentally had peach iced tea sweetened probably w/Aspartamine. I took Atarax 50 mg. immediately when the server told me (I forgot to ask and they usually say) it was artificially sweetened. I would not knowingly ever ingest A, but I think both the Dex and Atarax may have stopped the reaction. Maybe an extra dose of Atarax if you ever eat or drink Aspartame on accident.
Looking forward to feeling much better as am able to take Iron, eat better, and adjust to Dextrostat.
