When the sencetivity test came back come to find out the Bacteria was resistant to 7 meds and come to find out those 7 meds were the ones i was on a diferrent med every week. i even visited the ER like 4 time 2 in San Antonio Tx were i was living before i moved to Oakland Ca, and 2 in Oakland i had Physicals done ,Pap Smears Ultra Sounds and everything comes back normal , but i still have burning and pain, Iv'e been taking so many meds and nothing helps. Welcome to the ICN! Sorry you are having so much trouble. Have you been diagnosed with IC? I have only had 1 possibly 2 UTIs in my life and I am almost 43, so my burning was more related to my bladder. What meds have you tried so far for your burning? I do know that drinking alot of water helps with my burning as well as watching my diet nad triggers such as stress very closely. Have you gone over the patient handbook and the IC diet?

You may need to try some of the other meds. For me Nortriptyline didn't help, but amitriptyline does. Your doctor is partially right, sometimes the hydro does work as a treatment to help with the symptoms, but sometimes like mine, it was mainly for diagnostic testing. It didn't help my symptoms at all. That doesn't mean yours isn't going to work since you just had your hydro distention, but I would definitely call my doctor and see what else he has to offer. Maybe he can give you something for your pain that will help relieve the feeling of pressure and burning. IC is definitely not a disease that doctors can just say this, this and this will make it better. It's a matter of trial and error. Many of us learn what helps us individually and hope our experiences will give other sufferers some ideas. My doctor and I discussed the procedure as well as what I would probably go through. He made sure I had pain meds to help me while we were waiting to see if my symptoms improved. They didn't, so I learned very quickly to keep my doctor informed of what is going on. Alot of people use Pyridium Plus and Urelle or Prosed DS to help. Personally I do well on Prosed. Again, it's alot of trial and error. The more you research and learn what meds help with the different IC symptoms, the more prepared you are in being a great advocate for your own care.

I completely understand what you are going through. My sons were young when all this started with me. I had always been healthy and hated taking meds and the thought of "taking it easy" was to much for me to bear. I worked full-time and just received a nice promotion prior to my symptoms beginning, so there I was learning a lot of new job duties was almost more than I could bare, but I hung in there mainly for my on sanity. Staying busy was the best thing I could do for myself. Didn't make it easy for me at night, but again, finding the right course of meds and treatment was a constant goal.
For me, IC started suddenly but luckily I was able to be diagnosed very quickly, which is still often unheard of 20 years later. I was very involved in my church, my family and my friends. Just remember that life isn't over. You are dealing with alot right now and it takes time to sort through it all. Many of us share such a similar story on here, so you are sure to get great advice. Even 20 years later, I still read tips that I never thought of and have success with. I don't know what I would do without the help, support and friendship I have gained from being on this site!
I am so glad that you have support on your side. That is so very important!

What about the IC Diet? Have you read about that? It might help with the symptoms you are having. Many people are helped by finding what diet triggers they may have. You can find the link to the IC Diet in my signature below.
Also, drinking enough water to keep your urine diluted is very helpful. The less you drink, the stronger your urine will be. That can cause burning in the bladder. Many nutritionists say that we need 6 to 8 cups of water daily. That is in addition to the amount of liquids in other foods, such as soup.

I too suffer from bladder and urethra burning. Recently my accupuncturist suggested I try cantharis - it is an herbal supplement. They sell it at whole foods for about 6 bucks a tube. You take 5 tiny pill under your tongue three times a day. This tube lasts about 8 days. It really has helped with my burning. You might want to check with your doctor to make sure it won't interere with other meds you might be taking. It's a cheap thing to try and if it doesn't work, at least you aren't out hundreds of dollars. By the way, I tried accupunture and chinese herbs for 4 months with absolutely no change in my symptoms! If you decide to try it and it works for you, I found a website that sells it for around 3 bucks a tube if you buy twelve at a time. Also, the tube at whole foods has 80 pills per tube and the ones on line have 100 pill per tube. I know we are not allowed to adverstise on the website, just wanted to pass on some info that worked for me. I also recently switched to taking 2 mg of valium three times daily and that has helped the general pelvic pain I have been having. I have been battling IC almost 2 years now without any great results. I am definitely improved from when it first started with uti out of nowhere. I hope this helps. You can send me a private message down the road if you find the cantharis helps and you want the name of the website. Good luck to you.

Remember to check with your doctor before using any herbs. They might react with the meds you are already taking. Also remember that not everyone can tolerate the same meds. What is okay for me to take, may not be good for you to take, and visa versa.

Is it ok to take Motrin for pain & pressure?
SharonA
07-24-2008, 06:42 AM
Many ICers cannot take Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) because is causes problems in their bladders. There are some who can tolerate taking it. Some take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead. I do not take either as directed by my doctor for other issues besides IC.
Just like I said...What is good for one may not be good for the other. It's confusing, isn't it? :dizzy: Believe me, it does get easier once you figure out what works for you.
Have you read the information about IC available on this website? It might help answer some of your questions and give you an idea of what is going on. You are welcome to post any questions you might have. That is why we are here, but it might be more informative to take a look at the Patient Handbook. Once again, you can find the link to the Patient Handbook in my signature below. :)
