View Full Version : Have problems with bedtime/showering?

I am doing pretty good all day (have been having a problem with burning and some frequency/urgency) the past few days (have started taking the homeopathic remedy of cantharsis 30x three times a day which helps a lot.)
What I noticed was that the whole bedtime routine can be my biggest problem area of the day. I don't know if its the sound of the running water (grrrrrr......) that often makes me feel I have to "go", the actual process of the shower water running over my body or the very gentle hand rinsing I do of my genital area. I don't let the water run on it but I step away from the shower and just scoop water in my hand and rinse down there with that. Of course being city water there is chlorine in it and God knows what else so the water, itself, on the delicate tissue may be the problem.
Bottom (!) line, after stepping out of the shower and getting into bed, I will often get the urge/burning sensation - even when I haven't had it all day.
Anyone have any ideas? Frustrating. Thanks for any advice - what do you do?
I'm thinking of trying a sponge bath tonight - no running water!

I would try rinsing with warm water, over the toilet, with a squeeze bottle. If you are worried that it may be the city water, try spring water! Why not. We drink it anyway. There is for sale here a perineal wash bottle. I highly recommend it.
Hope that helps, but (!) remember, we are all different. I love that but you used by the way. cute.
Michelle.

I've had that burning problem after taking baths, but used soap even though my doc said not to. It would always go away by the next morning.
What I had wrong was called reactive cystitis (likely the reactive chemical cystitis). I don't know how it's treated except that you need to avoid what is irritating you.
Maybe the shampoo and soap you use prior to that being on your hands is irritating or when your rinsing your hair, it's running down on you and irritating you? I don't know..
If you think it's the cholorine in the water, try a shower with just using water, no washing your hair or anything, and see if you get the same reaction.
You should get a urinalysis done to make sure you don't have an infection developing. Better safe than sorry.

I agree with AlwaysWondering. Great advice.

Thanks for the advice. I already had a culture done but they said it was normal. I'm almost better -its just for the night thing.
Hopefully I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Sorta simular for a long time that happened when I showered in the am, I would get wicked spasams, during and after. Couldn't shower before church cause I would spasam everytime I stood to sing. I never figured out why, I didn't do anything for it, but some where along the line it went away.
Also at night I find when I am tired after along day these sorts of things bother more.

Hmm, never had running water influence me having to go. Seems like I always have to before and after I shower though. Before going to bed is a problem for me because I can't sleep when I have to go, unless I know that I will feel that way, regardless. I think it's also just knowing that I won't be going for awhile. I do go when I need to if I can though. No sense of holding it when I don't have to.

I shower in the morning --- otherwise my hair is a mess!

i get that too sometimes especially at night, and i agree with the eariler comment that by the end of the night, things have just been piled on and i am more irritable and feeling overall worse.
i do find that the running water makes me have to urinate immediately - as in there is no chance of holding it even for 20 seconds! i have started to take baths instead and have my boyfriend run them for me as i hide away from the noise of the water (ridiculous i know lol) - and i find that has helped me.
that said however, i find morning showers easier due to the long days endured and the fact that at night i find my bladder relaxes or something and i cant stop going, and the pain gets worse as well as the pressure.
not much advice in that, just a hug because i get it too! :)

you can buy a shower filter, which will remove alot of harmful chemicals in your shower water - much cheaper than a whole house filter. I got the kind that has a hose, so I can bring it down to my privates and get them really good and rinsed out at the end of my shower! I then use a hair dryer on the cool setting for a minute or two to dry up all the moisture down there. I read that trick somewhere on these boards. It is supposed to help prevent yeast issues by keeping the moisture away. Have you tried ditropan at all? I used to take one an hour before bed along with the atarax and it helped get rid of that "gotta go" feeling as I was drifting off. The atarax helps make me really sleepy. I don't have to use it anymore, but it was helpful during my sleep deprivation days. Just pm me if you want the name of the company that I used for my filter - we're not supposed to "advertise" on these boards so I can give you the name of the place I used - they also sell the replacement filters that you change every 6 months. You can also just google the term shower filters and find one that way. Good luck to you.
