View Full Version : symtpoms worse at night?
hello,
my symptoms seem to be better during the day and then in the late evening right before i go to bed they get worse. i don't have nocturia (sp?), but my bladder is in a lot of pain before bed and then i usually wake up feeling much better. can anyone relate? and also, do you know why this happens? thanks!

I find I'm much better during the day because I'm running around and busy not thinking about my bladder. At night when I lay down, that is the worst. I find what helps is for me to pull out my heating pad. I'm in a flare now so even that isn't helping much.
Good luck!

that's what some pple have suggested to me, but i'm not the kind of person who is super busy or gets overwhelmed. i'm pretty equally aware of my bladder all day...haha.

I feel that way too. In the mornings its not that bad but as the day goes on it gets worse esp. at night. The pain wakes me up a lot too. My doctor put me on a muscle relaxer which helps me a little it makes me tired so I pass out and I cant feel anything.
Good luck.

Hi, I can relate to you. I feel my best in the mornings. Come evening time is when I feel my worst!! I think because I am more active during the day and then by night I don't always feel that great. I have been like this as long as I have had IC. By night my back hurts alot more and I am more uncomfortable. I have some nights where I am ok but alot of time by night is when I feel it most. So I have become a day person!! I stay active during the day and at night I watch movies, relax on the couch. I use that as my time to relax, and if I am feeling good, then I do more. I always thought it was because I am so active during the day. I always have felt better in the morning and thats when I get alot of stuff done. :)

If I have any discomfort at all, it gets worse when I am ready to relax and go to sleep. When I'm up and moving around, even a little bit, there are distractions --- even if I'm just watching TV. When I go to bed, the distractions aren't there.

Thats so true Donna, I was just going to say a few weeks ago we all went out to play mini golf in the evening and I was distracted, so I actually felt fine. Alot of time when I lay down and there are no distractions is when I notice it most. :)

You don't have to be super busy to be distracted. Nights have always been my time for my symptoms to increase. No matter if I am totally worn out and think I could fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow or if I spent the majority of my time just watching TV all day. As soon as my body started that routine of getting ready for bed, the anxiousness would start. So to try to change that routine to be as relaxing as possible, I would take my meds, take a hot bath and have my heating pad all ready.

I have found that taking a very warm bath (actually I like mine HOT) relaxes not only your body and mind (light candles, read , do whatever - that used to include a nice glass of wine for me, but we all know that those days are OVER) but it calms the bladder a bit too. I haven't been doing it as much as I used to, it's so darn hot, but it does help!
