I tried Dex. My Uro Rx'd it for me. I started on a low dose 5mg a day of Dex. When I first took it I felt wired, and almost in a fog. I couldn't think straight because my mind was racing, plus I had trouble sleeping even when I took it very early in the AM.

The worst thing was that the Dex caused increased urinary retention for me. I couldn't start a urinary stream. It took me forever to relax my pelvis and then a small amount would come out.

I did find in doing research that a possible side effect of Dex is urinary retention because Dex may cause the urethra to tighten and thus make it hard to pee. In fact, I read of a case of a young girl who took it for ADD and had to go to the hospital after taking Dex because of this problem, she couldn't pee.

Anyway, I tried to decrease the dosage to 2.5mg a day and I still had all the same problems. So I stopped taking the Dex, (took it for about 2 weeks). It then took me about a month or two to finally get back to where I was before the Dex.:cussing:

Dex really messed w/ my sleep and my whole body just felt out of whack on it. Dex was not for me.

I am glad that it has helped so many. :woohoo:

I just wanted to post my experience so that others are aware of both the pros and cons of Dex.

I really wish I could say that it helped me but unfortunately....I can't. But hey...isn't that the case for MOST IC meds...what works for one doesn't always work for another.

sorry it did not work for you. YOu sound like me having retention problems. Mypscy md gave me ritalin to use for the place of dexedrine. I felt weird like I was under the influence of medication. It affected my judgement in driving later that days hours later........... so I won't take it again. The pharmacisit told me if you can't take that low dose ritalin you would never be able to take dexedrine. Vicky
