My son, age 6, is afraid of the nieghbors dog. It is a pit bull mix and frankly, scares me, too. It is to the point that I have to force Justin to come outside with us. I hate to have to do that!!! We've talked to the neighbor and he is a JERK and will not keep his dogs in his own yard. Out here, a dog on your property that is threatening is grounds for getting shot. I am not a great shot. Not that I thought I could shoot it, but after tonight when my son was SCARED to come outside, I think I could in a heartbeat. We've tried to talk to the neighbor about it, but like I said, he's a jerk. Any ideas? We're out of the 'city' limits, so there are not animal laws here. Thanks. Michelle

we will out in the country and even tho we are out of the city there is still a lesh law here with your son being scared I would call aminal control and ask them about the laws. if that dont do it go to the police department and tell them i'm sure something can be done.
my neighbor has to very large dogs i'm scared of and so is my children my husband asked them three times to keep there dogs put up becuase when i have to walk to get my kids from the bus or they go to a friend house those dogs grawl at them and there hair stands up on there back and barks loudly after my husband told them and told them and yes they are jerks we called animal control and they said they would come out to talk to them and if happens again they would come to get the dogs and charge them a fine because of the lesh law
I know we live in diff states but i'm sure there is sometype of law that says he has to keep the dog up that isnt right for you little boy to be scared to go outside
and if the dog is on your land again and you can't find a law to help you. i hate to say this because i do love animal but shot him.
the reason i'm scared of large dogs is because when i was about five years old a large dog almost took my whole right ear off i had over a hundred stitches in my head from that and had to have alot of surgerys to have it fixed.
good luck hon
I pray the owner does something before your child gets hurt or the dog gets shot.
sending you hugs and prayers for a better tomorrow.

Definetly check on the leash law in your area. Bull dogs seem to not be adult friendly let alone to children.
When you find out just tell him you'll call the police or the pound if he isn't on a leash outside.
Anymore you have to be extra careful around certain people's pets.
I hope something can get worked out soon.:hi:

Hi, it's a shame that our children have to be afraid to go in their own yard.I agree with some of the other gals there's got to be some law or protection. My daughter still carrys the scar above her mouth from 4 years ago, this was a neighbors dog and wasn't a pit but almost took her face off,now I'm the one afraid of certain dogs. You're a good mom!Hugs,Coleensunshine

One thing you might try is to either borrow, buy, or rent some electric fence to put between the two properties. Once the dogs hit that fence a time or two, then you can take the electric one down and just put a heavy cord in its place. One of our daughters used that method to keep her dogs on their property --- it's really funny --- if you want to keep her dogs away from anything, all you need to do is to put a string there and they won't touch it.
Warm hugs,
Donna

Reading your post reminds me of my neighbor. My husband was out mowing and saw a new puppy running around loose at the neighbors. A chit-chat with the neighbor confirmed that new puppy is a pit bull that they plan to breed.
These neighbors are not very responsible, so I can reasonably expect that pit bull will get loose often like their other dogs have and come onto our land. We live in a rural location also on a few acres. I do like dogs, but neighbors should not have to fear potential pit bull attacks out in their yard. I love to garden when my IC symptoms allow me to.
I plan on calling our county animal control each and every time their pit bull is out loose. I would suggest you do the same. Eventually, the County will have take more stringent measures to protect the public from potentially dangerous dogs.
Howabout squirting pepper spray to train the dog to stay way far away? just an idea. . . Carla
