My husband loves spare ribs, and I'm not sure how to fix them since I've been on the IC diet.
I normally put them in the oven, and toward the end, I baste them with a hearty barbecue sauce that I make myself.
Well, I can't do that now. But, I can have brown sugar and honey . .
Can anyone suggest something else to use, that is on the safe list? I'm being very cautious these days because I have a road trip coming up this week, and I don't want to have a flare while we're on the road.

Thanx . . .

Just a suggestion, but you might take some out for yourself just before you put on the sauce. That way other family members can have it --- and you can just enjoy the ribs.

Thanx Donna . . I've been doing that with other things. I made rice pudding the other night with Splenda because my husband is a diabetic. I ate some, and had a flare.
I think it was the Splenda. I can have it in small amounts. I guess it was a bit too much in the pudding. So, from now on, I'll separate the pudding, and add sugar to mine, and Splenda to his.

I'll do the same with the ribs . . thanx again.

One of the little tricks I have learned since moving to the Memphis area (the best place in the world for ribs ) is to put them in water using a large dutch oven or soup pot...bring them to a boil...turn the heat down...let them simmer for 20 to 30 minutes...place them in an oven safe pan lined with foil... spray the foil with a non-stick cooking spray...put the sauce on them...put them in a preheated oven on 350*F until the meat is cooked through and sauce has browned...then take them out of the oven and serve. The meat on the ribs will almost fall off the bones, will be very tender and you can through the mess away. Yummy!!!!!

Hmmm... I don't make alot of ribs but my dad is the grand master of ribs so I asked him. He had a lot of ideas though I'm not sure how IC friendly they are. I tend to avoid ribs. They remind me too much of the critter!

(1) Use just salt and pepper
(2) Honey, Brown Sugar
(3) Honey, Brown Sugar & Mustard
(4) Just try liquid smoke... < -- I don't know if that would irritate the bladder
(5) Sweet & Sour sauce
(6) Teriyaki Sauce

I used sugar free apricot preserves and soy sauce on my husband's slab, and just garlic, honey and brown sugar on mine.
Haven't tasted them yet. Will let you know how they come out.
Thanx for the help . .

My ribs turned out delicious. Just garlic powder, brown sugar and honey.
If you make them this way, remember to line the pan with foil first. The sugar and honey turns black and very gooey.
It would take forever to clean the pan.

My bladder is sensitive to vinegar, so BBQ sauce makes me flare. However, my parents recently found some BBQ dry rub on a trip to Memphis. It doesn't have dried vinegar parts or anything but still has the same flavor, according to them. I haven't gotten to try it, yet. (They just got it.) Anyway, something like that might be an option for you. I'm excited to find a way to get that taste without paying for it later!

Thanx Stacy . . . let me know how it is once you've tried it.
I think I would have trouble with the spices . . paprika is a big problem for me.
