I am wanting to get on birth control to regulate my periods soon. They have been so out of wack lately. Sometimes I go 2-3 months without them. And when I do get one its quite painful. I talked to my doctor yesterday and she mentioned that I may have PCOS. I go next week for some blood work.

I also think it would be a good idea since I have a cyst and possibly could get more.

I prolly wont start them until after my LAP.

But I just wanted to start researching now.

I have heard about Yasmin and seasonique. I have also heard of Yaz. Ortho-tri-cyline

Theres also some generics that at walmart SPRINTEC 28-DAY and TRI-SPRINTEC 28-DAY.

So my question is what are the best birth control pills out there. Since I am uninsured, I know that walmart has some, but I have no idea if these one are any good.

Replies would be appreciated:smile tee

well because of the different formulations, some ladies react to some better than others....
With me i know that i can't take any with estrogen since that flares me horribly so i had gone with the progesterone only pill.....
so really there is no 'best' one since sometimes women need to try out a few to get it right....
the main side effect with those is nausea and with the yaz/yazmin pills the progesterone is a diuretic so it could make you pee more.....:toilet:
so thats something to take in consideration too...
the good ones to try first though are ones that have low doses like alesse or maybe loestrin.....and then you can see how you react and then you can see if those are good or if you need something with a higher dosage of the estrogen or progesterone....
if you have breakthrough bleeding then you would need to 'up' your estrogen and if you have nausea then you would want something maybe with a high ratio of progesterone....
i have been on 6 different types of pills and have researched all sorts of stuff so if you need any help just let me know....
i have done the depo shot, the pills, copper IUD, and the mirena IUS...
so yeah i have a lifetime experience with all of them for various reasons....
so if you need some advice or tips or whathaveyou let me know....
i hope you find something to help with the pain....:pray:
we all need that for sure---painfree days...

Can anyone tell me there experinence with the Mirena IUD and IC? My gyn wants me to try it for my periods and bad pain duing them but I am very nervous about it. I am 46 so no longer worried about pregnancy as I am done having children and my surgeon who did my lap recently said he thinks I have adenomyosis and told me I should consider having my uterus out but my regular gyn wants me to try the IUD first. I am going next week to my uro and will get his import before making any decisions but was wondering if anyone else has been through this or has used the IUD?

Yeah i had the mirena for a year.....it didn't react with my bladder but for some weird reason my uterus didn't like it and hurt me bad and i had to get it out but it was the greatest before that point...
I had lighter periods and hardly any cramps....
of course some women do have flares with progesterone so you could flare from that but with me i flare with estrogen so it wasn't a problem...
i hope this sorta helps...

So i've been doing my own research on BC pills since I really need some regularity to my periods. I know WHO WANTS A PERIOD right? but its just like making me feel worse...cramping...horribly with no periods...and not getting them...feeling bloated.. bleh...the whole PMS w/o a period UGH!

so back to what I was saying.

Has anyone tried any of the Loestrin kind? The FE and the regular? what about desogen, or Lo Lo-Ovral?

Just wanted to see what people's experiences were with these.:help:

I have been on both the loestrin and the desogen and been on one like lo-ovral
the loestrin was the best for me, it totally regulated my periods when i was on it....the desogen made my cycles all screwey and the lo-ovral type one didn't do me any good either....
but many people have many different reactions to it since we all react to the hormones differently....
here is a good guide for you....
http://www.fpnotebook.com/Gyn/Pharm/OrlCntrcptvSlctn.htm
it gives you a crash course in hormonal therapy....
it helps you decide which one to try and then side effect management with that...and which to maybe switch to if need be....

look on the left hand side and you can choose the types you might want to try and check them out....
this is the IUD chapter....http://www.fpnotebook.com/Gyn/Contraception/IntrtrnDvc.htm
the vaginal ring

the patch

uterine problems...

its a really good site so check it out and you can read all of it and get an idea of where to go from here....
hope this helps...

I was on Loestrin FE for a year and loved it. I can't say it necessarily helped my IC overall, but it certainly didn't hurt it and it improved my period comfort tremendously. I barely had a period and didn't feel at all bad during the brief time I had it. I would still be on it, but I have a higher risk for breast cancer (based on biopsy results) and my breast surgeon urged me to cut out the hormones. I really, really miss my Loestrin!

I take Yasmin continuously to stop my periods and it's fantastic. :)
But I have insurance and thru a mail order company my insurance suggests, I get 4 packs at a time for $45 altogther.

Before that I took Apri....it broke down to $5 a pack at the drugstore.

I use permanent birth control as well. I hadn't needed b/c since hubby took care of things years ago. I didn't have any issues with my periods throughout my 20s and most of my 30s. Maybe I didn't realize it because I was in pain more than I wasn't. But once I was able to get my pain under control, I started tracking the times that I was hurting, which went right along with the time that I ovulated. Actually my periods seem to be "sweet relief" but being anemic, they were long and I bled alot. I talked to my NP at my gyno's office. I was hoping for a hysterectomy (close to my 40s) but of course with nothing wrong with my uterus, insurance won't pay for it. We then discussed the Depo Prevera shot, which I already had a few friends my age and older using it and having great success, my NP and I decided to try that route. I have been on it for 3 years last April and I can definitely tell a difference. Just 2 flares since I started having that shot. One flare was due to a instill which I can't handle my urethra being messed with and the 2nd one was when I lost track and didn't get the shot last August when it was due and by September, I had probably started ovulating. As soon as I got my shot on a Friday on my way to work, I was much better over the weekend.

There are some side effects, such as bone issues, so I have a couple of bone scans which both have been perfect. The best part is I don't have PMS anymore, which I never "noticed" until I was in my 30s.

hi! i've been using the nuva ring for several months and reallly recommend it! i was scared at first...it was the first time i had used any type of hormonal birth control, and with it being so close to my bladder, i was scared it would irritate it. it certainly did not!!!:woohoo: in fact, with in days my IC symptoms were a little better. i've never had any side effects from it. the uro prescribed it as a 9 weeks on 1 week off, but i had so much spotting that i've just been using it 3 weeks on and 1 off, and i do fine with it. you might have some trouble with the pharmacy's....insurance would only cover 1 every 28 days...well that won't work if you want to use it continually. you just have to have the pharmacy call your insurance and get over-ride permission..if you get any problems just remind them that's how your doctor prescribed it and it should be covered that way! it's a little bit of a pain at first, but like i said, i LOVE it so much that is was defiantly worth it! good luck, dear!

I have done quite well with Yazmin. I was taking it continually (no periods) then went back to getting a period and it was horrible! It flared me so badly it took over a week to recover! Needless to say this month I will go back to "Continuous" and only get a period 2-3 times a year, at my choosing.

Hi.....i was on orthro tricycline for 4 years and loved it!....but then my doctor thought that i didnt need one with quite so much estrogen and 3 months ago changed me to Lo - Ovral and thats when i started having my symptoms of a flare up and was diagnosed with IC yesterday....needless to say i am wondering if that birth control was the trigger and am anxious to try something else.....
