I didn't know where else to post this...

I've been on Elmiron for about two months. I think I can honestly say it has helped me. I haven't had urgency feelings. Reactions to food seems to have deminished and overall I have been feeling much better....THAT IS...until that time of the month comes. My back pain and front pain (always lower left side) kick in to high gear when my period comes. It hurts to stand, to walk, etc...Hips, thighs, back (terrible back pain)...it's just terrible.

So....my uro wants me to try birth control pills since the worse of my pains seems hormonal. And the fact that I had endometriosis about 7 years ago which is why I started the pill in the first place. I was given the Lupron shot for one year and then started on the pill. My dilema is...I feel birth control pills caused my IC in the first place. I was on it for 6 years (after the one year Lupron shot) stopped it for 6 months, went back on it again I was on Orthro Tri-cylcen Lo but I was switched to Yaz) that was in June of last year. July of last year all THIS started and I have never been the same. I stopped the pill completely September of last year. Now they want me to go back on it saying it might HELP me feel BETTER????

I was supposed to start it yesterday but was too afraid to. I am going on vacation on July 19th and with not knowing if I will feel better or worse...I thought I should at least wait til after I come back to start it again. That is IF I start it again. Anyone have any experiences with the pill being given to HELP with IC?

It's hard to say since we are all different when it comes to all the meds. I hadn't been on bc pills in years since hubby took care of things. I had just gone off the pill when I was diagnosed. Anyway several years later when I seemed to have most of my symptoms under control with my combo of meds, I did every well except for when I was ovulating. I was in my late 30s by then, so my doctor and I talked about my options. I was ready for a hsyterectormy, but he suggested that I try the depo prevero shot which for me was an immediate relief on my increased pain during my ovulation time. I still have pain, but it's managed with taking 1 to 2 pain meds a day, which for me is marvelous since it was quite common for me to need them every 4 hours and I counting the minutes when I could take another pain pill.

My Gyno also gave me B.C. pills (Yaz) to start taking and I too have not done so for the fear of it making my bladder problems worse. I am on different meds right now and also have high bloodpressure. I also have been urinating about 20 times a day and this pill has a diuretic in it so I have decided not to take it. If you are unsure about this and have found that it made your symptoms worse when you were on them in the past, you may want to discuss this further with your doctor or who ever you see for your IC. I know it's a hard decision to make. I also suffer from retention and that is why I was going to take it (since it has a diuretic) but now that I've been peeing 20 times a day (my problems are mixed) I was so afraid that this would make my urge to go even worse. I'm going to look into other alternatives instead of taking another pill. I wouldn't take it unless you are comfortable with the idea. Unless your doctor says it's ok to try it for a while and then get off it if it bothers you. I don't know if this is ok to do. Best wishes...

i would wait until you get back, alteast thats what i would do. i was on yaz and didnt have a problem. then i was diagnosed w/ endo and put on lupron for 6 months and then put on seasonique. i felt that the seasonique caused flare ups when i first started it, but after 4 and 1/2 months i seem to be ok w/ it. my dr said lots of women have flare ups w/ birth control.
