Took the one cat on Wednesday to vets because she had a bladder infection and now tomorrow I will be taking the grown kitten. I'm pretty sure she hasn't peed or pooped at all yesterday and I know for certain not at all today because I have her in the cage. Let her out to walk and play but when I'm not out there to watch to see if she does go potty in the cage she goes. She's eating and drinking, playing and such but has't gone potty yet and it's 3:00 pm. Is this normal for them not to pee that long? I'm not sure how often they poop but seems to me she would have to do it soon.

just my experience w/ cats:
males are more prone to urinary problems [I believe due to stones formed from higher magnesium levels in some dry cat foods,for some reason that affects males more than females, (in felines not humans, I mean:))] ....can be life threatening if not treated promptly, but I have only dealt w/ this w/ male cats having this problem;
whether male or female, generally they are like us when we have a UTI or IC symptoms...they will have frequency and urgency and will pee in places they normally wouldn't;);
it is not contagious, but if the cat (or dog) has to hold it for a long period of time, (say for example, your kitties would prefer to go outside rather than in litter box/cage so they hold it) then that may set them up for irritated bladder, UTI, whatever, and they may pee in places and at times they normaly wouldn't. I mention this b/c all of my cats are mostly indoor cats and although I usually have a litter box set up for them, they much prefer to go outside, no matter how long they have to hold it, they will usually wait til they can go outside. Luckily my cats have always been good about letting me know when they need to go out...and then they let me know within 10 mins or so when they want to come back in...by scratching and tearing up the screens on the window:rolleyes:
My cats have usually have had no problems with being let out just once or twice a day...I just wait for them to let me know when they need to be let out...but occasionally I just throw them out the door lol in case I think they've not been out enough.
I know your situation is different, but you may find that they really do prefer to go outside when you're not looking, rather than in their cage or litter box... you need to be able to pick up on what their particular cue is to let them out, and let them back in.
Also, UTIs or stones in cats usually make them appear very ill...not playing, eating etc.
Hope this helps:)

Animals can go an amazingly long time without excreting --- some will even make themselves ill rather than go in the house or in their beds. I do think it would be a good idea to have a talk with your vet about this.

Like mentioned, urinary issues with cats--especially males--can become life threatening very quickly.
If you think theres an issue with your cat it would be wise to seek veterinary care asap.
Speaking from experience.
Wishing you well...

Sometimes they get issues from color in there food. What food do they eat? Sometimes the coloring in the food causes issue's. I have had a issue with one of my cats from color in the food. So i had to switch to all natural cat food. A lot of pet food companies using coloring just for show. There is no nutritional value.

I gave up following her around after 5:00 pm that night. Starting to feel like a peeping tom. Then at 8:00 that night she went out to their room. I followed behind her and while she sat at the top landing of the stairs I went down to the closest liter box. I looked at her while she looked at me and I pointed to the box saying “Go wee wee. Go potty or else you will have to go to the vets come morning”. Guess what she did??? She walked down the steps, got in the box, dug a hole, peed, covered it over and gave me a look as saying “OK, I peed. Now stop nagging me already. Get a life” All I could say to her was you stinker. Did call the vets and they said as long as she was eating, drinking, playing and she did finally pee then she was fine. I told her I read where they poop and pee 20 minutes after they eat. She said that was only for puppies and kittens. Boy did I feel stupid but at least she was nice about it. Then 5 minutes after talking with her I had to laugh. The cat that I thought was sick was going bonkers running all over the place and chasing the others.
The two cats that do run won’t go potty outside. They wait until they come back in. They will walk right over to the liter box and I keep telling them go potty while outside. It would save on cat liter. They sure are funny animals. Guess I am still learning on the cat thing too. Thought I had all my cat knowledge down to a tee but boy I sure was wrong. :rolleyes:
That lady "friend" I posted about I stupidly told her about this. She said she never watches to see if her cats go to the bathroom. I thought I've done that from day one. Even when I had the dogs I did but with the cats I worry about them getting invections. Does anyone else watch your cat to see if they go? I have more then one using the liter boxes so I have to watch.
